Zusammenfassung: | The Culture and Commerce of the Short Story is a cultural and historical account of the birth and development of the American short story from the time of Poe. It describes how America - through political movements, changes in education, magazine editorial policy and the work of certain individuals - built the short story as an image of itself and continues to use the genre as a locale within the realm of art where American political ideals can be rehearsed, debated and turned into literary forms. While the focus of this book is cultural, individual authors such as Edgar Allan Poe and Edith Wharton are examined as representative of the phenomenon. As part of its project, this book also contains a history of creative writing and the workshop dating back a century. Andrew Levy makes a strong case for the centrality of the short story as a form of art in American life and provides an explanation for the genre's resurgence and ongoing success |

Back home again : Bobbie Ann Mason's "Shiloh" Postscript : Iowa City The Culture and Commerce of the Short Story is a cultural and historical account of the birth and development of the American short story from the time of Poe. Andrew Levy makes a strong case for the centrality of the short story as a form of art in American life and provides an explanation for the genre's resurgence and ongoing success Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Short stories, American / History and criticism Creative writing / Study and teaching / United States / History Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 gnd rswk-swf Kurzgeschichte (DE-588)4033842-3 gnd rswk-swf Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 gnd rswk-swf Kreatives Schreiben (DE-588)4165550-3 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 gnd rswk-swf USA USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Kurzgeschichte (DE-588)4033842-3 s Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 s Geschichte z 1\p DE-604 Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 s 2\p DE-604 Kreatives Schreiben (DE-588)4165550-3 s 3\p DE-604 Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 s 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-06017-2 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-44057-8 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511519345 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
