Zusammenfassung: | New Music at Darmstadt explores the rise and fall of the so-called 'Darmstadt School', through a wealth of primary sources and analytical commentary. Martin Iddon's book examines the creation of the Darmstadt New Music Courses and the slow development and subsequent collapse of the idea of the Darmstadt School, showing how participants in the West German new music scene, including Herbert Eimert and a range of journalistic commentators, created an image of a coherent entity, despite the very diverse range of compositional practices on display at the courses. The book also explores the collapse of the seeming collegiality of the Darmstadt composers, which crystallised around the arrival there in 1958 of the most famous, and notorious, of all post-war composers, John Cage, an event Carl Dahlhaus opined 'swept across the European avant-garde like a natural disaster' |

Arrivals -- Schools -- Excursus : October 1954, Donaueschingen and Cologne -- Chance encounters. Precursors -- The Cage shock -- In Cage's wake New Music at Darmstadt explores the rise and fall of the so-called 'Darmstadt School', through a wealth of primary sources and analytical commentary. The book also explores the collapse of the seeming collegiality of the Darmstadt composers, which crystallised around the arrival there in 1958 of the most famous, and notorious, of all post-war composers, John Cage, an event Carl Dahlhaus opined 'swept across the European avant-garde like a natural disaster' Nono, Luigi / Criticism and interpretation Stockhausen, Karlheinz / 1928-2007 / Criticism and interpretation Cage, John / Criticism and interpretation Boulez, Pierre / 1925-2016 / Criticism and interpretation Stockhausen, Karlheinz 1928-2007 (DE-588)118618350 gnd rswk-swf Cage, John 1912-1992 (DE-588)118518291 gnd rswk-swf Nono, Luigi 1924-1990 (DE-588)118588559 gnd rswk-swf Boulez, Pierre 1925-2016 (DE-588)118514024 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1949-1961 gnd rswk-swf Musik Music / Germany / Darmstadt / 20th century / History and criticism Neue Musik (DE-588)4428235-7 gnd rswk-swf Rezeption (DE-588)4049716-1 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland Darmstadt (DE-588)4011077-1 gnd rswk-swf Neue Musik (DE-588)4428235-7 s Darmstadt (DE-588)4011077-1 g Geschichte 1949-1961 z 1\p DE-604 Cage, John 1912-1992 (DE-588)118518291 p Rezeption (DE-588)4049716-1 s 2\p DE-604 Stockhausen, Karlheinz 1928-2007 (DE-588)118618350 p 3\p DE-604 Boulez, Pierre 1925-2016 (DE-588)118514024 p 4\p DE-604 Nono, Luigi 1924-1990 (DE-588)118588559 p 5\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-1-107-03329-0 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-1-107-48001-8 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781139519571 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
