Zusammenfassung: | In this wide-ranging account, Ivan Berend traces the post-war fortunes of the countries lying between Germany and the former Soviet Union. Professor Berend draws both on his academic expertise and personal involvement in many of the events which he describes to produce a synthesis of a huge array of materials. His study stretches beyond the confines of economic history to provide insights into the complex interplay of ideological, social and political forces in the 'Eastern Bloc' countries over the last fifty years of revolutionary change. In particular Berend's analysis of totalitarianism, the development of nationalism, and the personalities at the centre of political life in eastern Europe offers an alternative perspective on the economies of the state-socialist regimes at the periphery of the western industrialised world |

Economic decline -- political challenge -- rising nationalism In this wide-ranging account, Ivan Berend traces the post-war fortunes of the countries lying between Germany and the former Soviet Union. In particular Berend's analysis of totalitarianism, the development of nationalism, and the personalities at the centre of political life in eastern Europe offers an alternative perspective on the economies of the state-socialist regimes at the periphery of the western industrialised world Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1990-1993 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1944-1993 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1944-1989 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Kommunismus Politik Communism / Europe, Eastern / History Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 gnd rswk-swf Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 gnd rswk-swf Kommunismus (DE-588)4031892-8 gnd rswk-swf Europe, Eastern / History / 20th century Europe, Eastern / Politics and government / 20th century Ostblock (DE-588)4075730-4 gnd rswk-swf Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 gnd rswk-swf Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 g Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 s Geschichte 1944-1993 z 1\p DE-604 Ostblock (DE-588)4075730-4 g Kommunismus (DE-588)4031892-8 s Geschichte 1944-1989 z 2\p DE-604 Geschichte 1990-1993 z 3\p DE-604 Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 s 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-55066-6 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-66352-6 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511581748 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
