Zusammenfassung: | This volume, in Studies in the Social and Cultural History of Modern Warfare series, examines how France, Belgium and the Netherlands emerged from the military collapse and humiliating Nazi occupation they suffered during the Second World War. Rather than traditional armed conflict, the human consequences of Nazi policies were resistance, genocide and labour migration to Germany. Pieter Lagrou offers a genuinely comparative approach to these issues, based on extensive archival research; he underlines the divergence between ambiguous experiences of occupation and the univocal post-war patriotic narratives which followed. His book reveals striking differences in political cultures as well as close convergence in the creation of a common Western European discourse, and uncovers disturbing aspects of the aftermath of the war, including post-war antisemitism and the marginalisation of resistance veterans. Brilliantly researched and fluently written, this book will be of central interest to all scholars and students of twentieth-century European history |

Brilliantly researched and fluently written, this book will be of central interest to all scholars and students of twentieth-century European history Geschichte 1940-1945 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1904-1945 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1945-1965 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Reconstruction (1939-1951) / Europe Memory Kollektives Gedächtnis (DE-588)4200793-8 gnd rswk-swf Patriotismus (DE-588)4132835-8 gnd rswk-swf Besetzung (DE-588)4006020-2 gnd rswk-swf Nachkriegszeit (DE-588)4421423-6 gnd rswk-swf Vergangenheitsbewältigung (DE-588)4061672-1 gnd rswk-swf Zweiter Weltkrieg (DE-588)4079167-1 gnd rswk-swf Europa Europe / History / 1945- Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf Belgien (DE-588)4005406-8 gnd rswk-swf Niederlande (DE-588)4042203-3 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g Niederlande (DE-588)4042203-3 g Belgien (DE-588)4005406-8 g Besetzung (DE-588)4006020-2 s Zweiter Weltkrieg (DE-588)4079167-1 s Nachkriegszeit (DE-588)4421423-6 s Patriotismus (DE-588)4132835-8 s Kollektives Gedächtnis (DE-588)4200793-8 s 1\p DE-604 Geschichte 1940-1945 z Vergangenheitsbewältigung (DE-588)4061672-1 s Geschichte 1945-1965 z 2\p DE-604 3\p DE-604 Geschichte 1904-1945 z 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-04147-8 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-65180-6 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511497087 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
