Zusammenfassung: | In this 1994 book Bradley Klein draws upon debates in international relations theory to raise important questions about the nature of strategic studies. He argues that post-modern critiques of realism and neorealism open up opportunities for new ways of thinking about nuclear deterrence. In clear and uncluttered language, he explores the links between modernity, state-building and strategic violence, and argues that American foreign policy, and NATO, undertook a set of dynamic political practices intended to make and remake world order in the image of Western identity. Klein warns against too facile a celebration of the end of the Cold War, concluding that it is even more imperative today to appreciate the scope and power of the Western strategic project. The book will be of interest to students of international relations theory, strategic studies, peace studies, and US foreign policy |

Introduction -- 2. The Politics of Strategic Studies -- 3. What Nuclear Revolution? -- 4. Millennial Liberalism and Dual Militarization -- 5. Deterrence as a Social Practice -- 6. The West of All Possible Worlds In this 1994 book Bradley Klein draws upon debates in international relations theory to raise important questions about the nature of strategic studies. The book will be of interest to students of international relations theory, strategic studies, peace studies, and US foreign policy NATO North Atlantic Treaty Organization NATO (DE-588)377-3 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1989-1993 gnd rswk-swf National security National security / United States World politics / 1989- Nukleare Abschreckung (DE-588)7791249-4 gnd rswk-swf Atomstrategie (DE-588)4003431-8 gnd rswk-swf Weltordnung (DE-588)4126263-3 gnd rswk-swf Theorie (DE-588)4059787-8 gnd rswk-swf Internationale Politik (DE-588)4072885-7 gnd rswk-swf Internationales politisches System (DE-588)4125488-0 gnd rswk-swf Sicherheitspolitik (DE-588)4116489-1 gnd rswk-swf USA USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Atomstrategie (DE-588)4003431-8 s Internationales politisches System (DE-588)4125488-0 s 1\p DE-604 Sicherheitspolitik (DE-588)4116489-1 s Theorie (DE-588)4059787-8 s 2\p DE-604 Internationale Politik (DE-588)4072885-7 s Geschichte 1989-1993 z 3\p DE-604 Nukleare Abschreckung (DE-588)7791249-4 s Weltordnung (DE-588)4126263-3 s 4\p DE-604 NATO (DE-588)377-3 b 5\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-37034-9 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-46644-8 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511559037 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
