Zusammenfassung: | Arthurian literature is a popular field, but most of the published work focuses on the vernacular tradition. This book, uniquely, looks at Latin Arthurian works. Geoffrey of Monmouth is treated at length and this is the first book to put him in a context which includes other Latin histories, monastic chronicles, saints' lives and other Latin prose Arthurian narratives. Like Geoffrey's works, most can be associated with the Angevin court of Henry II and by placing these works against the court background, this book both introduces a new set of texts into the Arthurian canon and suggests a way to understand their place in that tradition. The unfamiliar works are summarized for the reader, and there are extensive quotations, with translations, throughout. The result is a thorough exploration of Latin Arthurian narrative in the foundational period for the Arthurian tradition |

The result is a thorough exploration of Latin Arthurian narrative in the foundational period for the Arthurian tradition Geoffrey / of Monmouth, Bishop of St. Asaph / 1100?-1154 / Historia regum Britanniae Artus Fiktive Gestalt (DE-588)118504517 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1135-1400 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Latin literature, Medieval and modern / Great Britain / History and criticism Romances, Latin (Medieval and modern) / History and criticism Historiography / Great Britain / History / To 1500 Arthurian romances / History and criticism Britons / Historiography Narration (Rhetoric) Rhetoric, Medieval Latein (DE-588)4114364-4 gnd rswk-swf Chronik (DE-588)4127914-1 gnd rswk-swf Mittellatein (DE-588)4039691-5 gnd rswk-swf Artusepik (DE-588)4112603-8 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien Great Britain / History / Henry II, 1154-1189 Great Britain / Intellectual life / 1066-1485 England (DE-588)4014770-8 gnd rswk-swf Artus Fiktive Gestalt (DE-588)118504517 p England (DE-588)4014770-8 g Chronik (DE-588)4127914-1 s Geschichte 1135-1400 z 1\p DE-604 Mittellatein (DE-588)4039691-5 s 2\p DE-604 Artusepik (DE-588)4112603-8 s Latein (DE-588)4114364-4 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-02152-4 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-62126-7 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511518713 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
