Zusammenfassung: | A comparison of the development of the synthetic dye industry in Great Britain, Germany, and the US. The rise of this industry constitutes an important chapter in business, economic, and technological history because synthetic dyes - invented in 1857 - represent the first time that a scientific discovery quickly gave rise to a new industry. British firms led the industry for the next eight years, but German firms came to dominate the industry for decades before WWI, while American firms played only a minor role during the entire period. This study identifies differences in educational institutions and patent laws as the key reasons for German leadership in this industry. Successful firms had strong ties to the centers of organic chemistry knowledge. The book also argues that a complex coevolutionary process linking firms, technology and national institutions resulted in very different degrees of industrial success for dye firms in the three countries |

The book also argues that a complex coevolutionary process linking firms, technology and national institutions resulted in very different degrees of industrial success for dye firms in the three countries Geschichte 1856-1914 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Dye industry / Germany / History Dye industry / Technological innovations / Germany / History Dye industry / Great Britain / History Dye industry / United States / History Competition, International / Case studies Comparative advantage (International trade) / Case studies Farbenindustrie (DE-588)4153701-4 gnd rswk-swf Technischer Fortschritt (DE-588)4059252-2 gnd rswk-swf Internationaler Vergleich (DE-588)4120509-1 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 gnd rswk-swf Technische Innovation (DE-588)4431027-4 gnd rswk-swf Internationaler Wettbewerb (DE-588)4027415-9 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland Großbritannien USA USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4522595-3 Fallstudiensammlung gnd-content Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 g Farbenindustrie (DE-588)4153701-4 s Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Technischer Fortschritt (DE-588)4059252-2 s Geschichte z 1\p DE-604 Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 s 2\p DE-604 Internationaler Vergleich (DE-588)4120509-1 s 3\p DE-604 4\p DE-604 Technische Innovation (DE-588)4431027-4 s Internationaler Wettbewerb (DE-588)4027415-9 s Geschichte 1856-1914 z DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-68415-6 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-81329-7 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511510953 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
