Zusammenfassung: | Based on a wide array of data collected by the author, this book uses clear theoretically motivated economic analysis to explain the structure, performance, and influence of universal banks and securities markets on firms during industrialisation. The German universal banks played a significant but not overwhelming role in the ownership and control of corporate firms. Banks gained access to boards via a confluence of their underwriting and brokerage activities, the legal phenomena of bearer shares and deposited voting rights, and the flourishing securities markets of the turn of the twentieth century. In general, bank relationships had little impact on firm performance; stock market listings, or ownership structure, were more important. The findings show that securities markets can thrive within a civil-law, universal-bank system and suggest that financial system complexity can favour rapid industrial expansion |

The findings show that securities markets can thrive within a civil-law, universal-bank system and suggest that financial system complexity can favour rapid industrial expansion Geschichte 1848-2007 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Bank Banks and banking / Germany Universal banks / Germany Industrialization / Germany Bank (DE-588)4004436-1 gnd rswk-swf Universalbank (DE-588)4117291-7 gnd rswk-swf Kreditwesen (DE-588)4032950-1 gnd rswk-swf Wirtschaftsentwicklung (DE-588)4066438-7 gnd rswk-swf Industrialisierung (DE-588)4026776-3 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 g Bank (DE-588)4004436-1 s Kreditwesen (DE-588)4032950-1 s Geschichte 1848-2007 z 1\p DE-604 Industrialisierung (DE-588)4026776-3 s Wirtschaftsentwicklung (DE-588)4066438-7 s Geschichte z 2\p DE-604 Universalbank (DE-588)4117291-7 s 3\p DE-604 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-39660-8 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-81020-3 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511510908 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
