Zusammenfassung: | Rousseau and Geneva reconstructs the main aspects of Genevan socio-economic, political and religious thought in the first half of the eighteenth century. In this way Dr Rosenblatt effectively contextualizes the development of Rousseau's thought from the First Discourse through to the Social Contract. Over time Rousseau has been adopted as a French thinker, but this adoption obscures his Genevan origin. Dr Rosenblatt points out that he is, in fact, a Genevan thinker and illustrates that Rousseau's classical republicanism, his version of natural law theory, his civil religion and his hostility to the arguments of doux commerce theorists are all responses to the political use of such arguments in Geneva. The author also points out that it was this relationship with Geneva that played an integral part in his development into an original political thinker |

The author also points out that it was this relationship with Geneva that played an integral part in his development into an original political thinker Rousseau, Jean-Jacques / 1712-1778 Rousseau, Jean-Jacques 1712-1778 (DE-588)118603426 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1700-1800 Geschichte 1749-1762 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Calvinism / History Politisches Denken (DE-588)4115590-7 gnd rswk-swf Politische Philosophie (DE-588)4076226-9 gnd rswk-swf Geneva (Switzerland) / Intellectual life / 18th century Genf (DE-588)4020137-5 gnd rswk-swf Rousseau, Jean-Jacques 1712-1778 (DE-588)118603426 p Genf (DE-588)4020137-5 g Politisches Denken (DE-588)4115590-7 s Geschichte 1749-1762 z 1\p DE-604 Politische Philosophie (DE-588)4076226-9 s 2\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-03395-4 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-57004-6 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511582936 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
