Zusammenfassung: | In Romanticism, Maternity, and the Body Politic, Julie Kipp examines Romantic writers' treatments of motherhood and maternal bodies in the context of the legal, medical, educational and socioeconomic debates about motherhood so popular during the period. She argues that these discussions turned the physical processes associated with mothering into matters of national importance. The privately shared space signified by the womb or the maternal breast were made public by the widespread interest in the workings of the maternal body. These private spaces evidenced for writers of the period the radical exposure of mother and child to one another - for good or ill. Kipp's primary concern is to underline the ways that writers used representations of mother-child bonds as ways of naturalizing, endorsing and critiquing Enlightenment constructions of interpersonal and intercultural relations. This fascinating literary and cultural study will appeal to all scholars of Romanticism |

This fascinating literary and cultural study will appeal to all scholars of Romanticism Geschichte 1800-1900 Geschichte 1750-1850 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1798-1832 gnd rswk-swf English literature / 19th century / History and criticism Mother and child in literature Romanticism / Great Britain Human body in literature Motherhood in literature Childbirth in literature Mothers in literature Mutter Motiv (DE-588)4120778-6 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 gnd rswk-swf Mutterschaft Motiv (DE-588)4170902-0 gnd rswk-swf Mutterschaft (DE-588)4140725-8 gnd rswk-swf Körper Motiv (DE-588)4164424-4 gnd rswk-swf Geistesleben (DE-588)4274490-8 gnd rswk-swf Schwangerschaft (DE-588)4053724-9 gnd rswk-swf Schwangerschaft Motiv (DE-588)4132219-8 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Mutterschaft Motiv (DE-588)4170902-0 s Schwangerschaft Motiv (DE-588)4132219-8 s Körper Motiv (DE-588)4164424-4 s Geschichte 1750-1850 z 1\p DE-604 Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Schwangerschaft (DE-588)4053724-9 s Mutterschaft (DE-588)4140725-8 s Geistesleben (DE-588)4274490-8 s 2\p DE-604 Mutter Motiv (DE-588)4120778-6 s Geschichte 1798-1832 z 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-03626-9 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-81455-3 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511484346 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
