Zusammenfassung: | Why was Louis XIV successful in pacifying the same aristocrats who had caused so much trouble for Richelieu and Mazarin? What role did absolutism play in reinforming or changing the traditional social system in seventeenth-century France? In this analysis of the provincial reality of absolutism, Professor Beik argues that the answers to these questions lie in the relationship between the regional aristocracy and the crown. Starting with a critical examination of current approaches to state and society by institutional, social , 'Annales', and Marxist historians, he calls for a new class analysis based on the findings of all these schools. This is the first appearance as a paperback of Professor Beik's book, which won the 1986 Herbert Baxter Adams Prize awarded by the American historical Association for the year's outstanding work in European history |

This is the first appearance as a paperback of Professor Beik's book, which won the 1986 Herbert Baxter Adams Prize awarded by the American historical Association for the year's outstanding work in European history Geschichte 1600-1700 Geschichte 1647-1677 gnd rswk-swf Sozialgeschichte 1647-1677 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1643-1715 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Politik Elite (Social sciences) / France / Languedoc / History / 17th century Zentralgewalt (DE-588)4359485-2 gnd rswk-swf Adel (DE-588)4000464-8 gnd rswk-swf Absolutismus (DE-588)4000243-3 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich Languedoc (France) / Politics and government Languedoc (France) / Social conditions Languedoc (DE-588)4034544-0 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4113937-9 Hochschulschrift gnd-content Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g Adel (DE-588)4000464-8 s Zentralgewalt (DE-588)4359485-2 s Geschichte 1647-1677 z 2\p DE-604 Languedoc (DE-588)4034544-0 g Absolutismus (DE-588)4000243-3 s Geschichte 1643-1715 z 3\p DE-604 Sozialgeschichte 1647-1677 z 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-26309-2 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-36782-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511583797 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
