Zusammenfassung: | Civic humanism has been one of the most influential of all concepts in the history of ideas. In this volume, an eminent team of political theorists and historians of ideas have been brought together to reassess the impact on the subject of the pioneering work of Hans Baron (1966) and J. G. A. Pocock (1975), creating a fresh intellectual landscape in which Renaissance civic humanism can be discussed. Drawing on a wide range of political and historical texts, this book evaluates civic humanism in the light of the emergence of oligarchy, imperialism, patronage politics and the Medici ascendency in Florence in the 14th to 16th centuries. It proposes new understandings of the evolution of important republican concepts such as liberty, the rule of law, virtue, and the common good. This thought-provoking collection represents a significant contribution to the study of republican political ideology in the Renaissance and modern periods |

Mansfield -- Rhetoric, reason, and republic : republicanisms-- ancient, medieval, and modern / Cary J. Nederman -- Situating Machiavelli / Paul A. Rahe Civic humanism has been one of the most influential of all concepts in the history of ideas. This thought-provoking collection represents a significant contribution to the study of republican political ideology in the Renaissance and modern periods Machiavelli, Niccolò 1469-1527 (DE-588)118575775 gnd rswk-swf Bruni, Leonardo 1370-1444 (DE-588)118516132 gnd rswk-swf Guicciardini, Francesco 1483-1540 (DE-588)118543415 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1268-1559 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Politik Humanism / Italy Renaissance / Italy Republicanism / Italy / History Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 gnd rswk-swf Humanismus (DE-588)4026140-2 gnd rswk-swf Renaissance (DE-588)4049450-0 gnd rswk-swf Italien Italy / Politics and government / 1268-1559 Italien (DE-588)4027833-5 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Bruni, Leonardo 1370-1444 (DE-588)118516132 p Guicciardini, Francesco 1483-1540 (DE-588)118543415 p Machiavelli, Niccolò 1469-1527 (DE-588)118575775 p 2\p DE-604 Italien (DE-588)4027833-5 g Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 s Geschichte 1268-1559 z 3\p DE-604 Humanismus (DE-588)4026140-2 s Renaissance (DE-588)4049450-0 s 4\p DE-604 Hankins, James edt Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-54807-6 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-78090-2 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511558474 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
