Zusammenfassung: | The demographic shockwaves of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in Europe produced tremendous change in the national economies and affected the political, social, and cultural development of these societies. Migration historians have begun to connect the various European migratory streams during this period with transcontinental migration to North America. This volume contains empirical studies on German in-migration, internal migration, and transatlantic emigration from the 1820s to the 1930s, placed in a comparative perspective of Polish, Swedish, and Irish migration to North America. Special emphasis is placed on the role of women in the process of migration. By looking specifically at postwar Germany, Klaus J. Bade underscores the relevance of this history in a concluding essay |

Bade -- Research on the German migrations, 1820s to 1930s : a report on the state of German scholarship / Dirk Hoerder The demographic shockwaves of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in Europe produced tremendous change in the national economies and affected the political, social, and cultural development of these societies. Bade underscores the relevance of this history in a concluding essay Geschichte 1820-1930 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Migration Germans / United States / History German Americans / History Germans / Foreign countries Binnenwanderung (DE-588)4112768-7 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 gnd rswk-swf Migration (DE-588)4120730-0 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland USA Germany / Emigration and immigration / History United States / Emigration and immigration / History Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift gnd-content 2\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content 3\p (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 1991 Bremerhaven gnd-content Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 g Binnenwanderung (DE-588)4112768-7 s Geschichte 1820-1930 z 4\p DE-604 Migration (DE-588)4120730-0 s Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 s 5\p DE-604 6\p DE-604 Hoerder, Dirk edt Nagler, Jörg edt Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-47412-2 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-52192-5 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781139052498 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 6\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
