Zusammenfassung: | Antoine Arnauld and Pierre Nicole were philosophers and theologians associated with Port-Royal Abbey, a centre of the Catholic Jansenist movement in seventeenth-century France. Their enormously influential Logic or the Art of Thinking, which went through five editions in their lifetimes, treats topics in logic, language, theory of knowledge and metaphysics, and also articulates the response of 'heretical' Jansenist Catholicism to orthodox Catholic and Protestant views on grace, free will and the sacraments. In attempting to combine the categorical theory of the proposition with a Cartesian account of knowledge, their Logic represents the classical view of judgment which inspired the modern transformation in logic and semantic theory by Frege, Russell, Wittgenstein and recent philosophers. This edition presents a new translation of the text, together with a historical introduction and suggestions for further reading |

This edition presents a new translation of the text, together with a historical introduction and suggestions for further reading Kloster Port-Royal (DE-588)4028127-9 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1664-1683 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1650 gnd rswk-swf Logic / Early works to 1800 Logik (DE-588)4036202-4 gnd rswk-swf Philosophenschule (DE-588)4275036-2 gnd rswk-swf Port-Royal Département Yvelines (DE-588)4126107-0 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4135952-5 Quelle gnd-content Port-Royal Département Yvelines (DE-588)4126107-0 g Philosophenschule (DE-588)4275036-2 s Logik (DE-588)4036202-4 s 2\p DE-604 Geschichte 1650 z 3\p DE-604 Kloster Port-Royal (DE-588)4028127-9 b 4\p DE-604 Geschichte 1664-1683 z 5\p DE-604 Nicole, Pierre 1625-1695 Sonstige oth Buroker, Jill Vance 1945- trl edt Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-48249-3 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-48394-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781139166768 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
