Zusammenfassung: | Why were European economies able to pursue the simultaneous commitment to full employment and welfare state expansion during the first decades of the postwar period and why did this virtuous relationship break down during recent decades? This book provides an answer to this question, by highlighting the critical importance of a political exchange between unions and governments, premised on wage moderation in exchange for the expansion of social services and transfers. The strategies pursued by these actors in these political exchanges are influenced by existing wage bargaining institutions, the character of monetary policy and by the level and composition of social policy transfers. The book demonstrates that the gradual growth in the fiscal burden has undermined the effectiveness of this political exchange, lowering the ability of unions' wage policies to affect employment outcomes |

The book demonstrates that the gradual growth in the fiscal burden has undermined the effectiveness of this political exchange, lowering the ability of unions' wage policies to affect employment This book provides an answer to this question, by highlighting the critical importance of a political exchange between unions and governments, premised on wage moderation in exchange for the expansion of social services and transfers. The strategies pursued by these actors in these political exchanges are influenced by existing wage bargaining institutions, the character of monetary policy and by the level and composition of social policy transfers. The book demonstrates that the gradual growth in the fiscal burden has undermined the effectiveness of this political exchange, lowering the ability of unions' wage policies to affect employment outcomes Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1950-2000 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Gewerkschaft Wirtschaftspolitik Manpower policy / Europe Welfare state / Sweden / History / 20th century Wages / Sweden / History / 20th century Labor unions / Sweden / History / 20th century Welfare state / Germany / History / 20th century Wages / Germany / History / 20th century Labor unions / Germany / History / 20th century Welfare state / Great Britain / History / 20th century Wages / Great Britain / History / 20th century Labor unions / Great Britain / History / 20th century Lohnpolitik (DE-588)4036241-3 gnd rswk-swf Sozialhilfe (DE-588)4055776-5 gnd rswk-swf Arbeitslosigkeit (DE-588)4002730-2 gnd rswk-swf Makroökonomisches Modell (DE-588)4074486-3 gnd rswk-swf Wohlfahrtsstaat (DE-588)4117641-8 gnd rswk-swf Gewerkschaft (DE-588)4020872-2 gnd rswk-swf Sozialpolitik (DE-588)4055879-4 gnd rswk-swf Arbeitsmarkt (DE-588)4002733-8 gnd rswk-swf Steuerpolitik (DE-588)4057447-7 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland Europa Großbritannien Schweden Europe / Economic policy Europe / Social policy Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 gnd rswk-swf Schweden (DE-588)4077258-5 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf Schweden (DE-588)4077258-5 g Sozialpolitik (DE-588)4055879-4 s Gewerkschaft (DE-588)4020872-2 s Lohnpolitik (DE-588)4036241-3 s Arbeitsmarkt (DE-588)4002733-8 s Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 g Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Geschichte 1950-2000 z 1\p DE-604 Wohlfahrtsstaat (DE-588)4117641-8 s Makroökonomisches Modell (DE-588)4074486-3 s 2\p DE-604 Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Steuerpolitik (DE-588)4057447-7 s Arbeitslosigkeit (DE-588)4002730-2 s Sozialhilfe (DE-588)4055776-5 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-67411-9 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-85742-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511625688 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
