Zusammenfassung: | Relations between the public and holders of political authority are in a period of transformative flux. On the one side, new expectations and meanings of citizenship are being entertained and occasionally acted upon. On the other, an inexorable impoverishment of mainstream political communication is taking place. This book argues that the Internet has the potential to improve public communications and enrich democracy, a project that requires imaginative policy-making. This argument is developed through three stages: first exploring the theoretical foundations for renewing democratic citizenship, then examining practical case studies of e-democracy, and finally, reviewing the limitations of recent policies designed to promote e-democracy and setting out a radical, but practical proposal for an online civic commons: a trusted public space where the dispersed energies, self-articulations and aspirations of citizens can be rehearsed, in public, within a process of ongoing feedback to the various levels and centers of governance: local, national and transnational |

This argument is developed through three stages: first exploring the theoretical foundations for renewing democratic citizenship, then examining practical case studies of e-democracy, and finally, reviewing the limitations of recent policies designed to promote e-democracy and setting out a radical, but practical proposal for an online civic commons: a trusted public space where the dispersed energies, self-articulations and aspirations of citizens can be rehearsed, in public, within a process of ongoing feedback to the various levels and centers of governance: local, national and transnational Politik Political participation / Technological innovations / Great Britain Information technology / Political aspects / Great Britain Internet in public administration / Great Britain Politische Beteiligung (DE-588)4076215-4 gnd rswk-swf Öffentlichkeit (DE-588)4043183-6 gnd rswk-swf E-Government (DE-588)4728387-7 gnd rswk-swf Politische Kommunikation (DE-588)4134262-8 gnd rswk-swf Internet (DE-588)4308416-3 gnd rswk-swf Demokratie (DE-588)4011413-2 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Internet (DE-588)4308416-3 s Politische Kommunikation (DE-588)4134262-8 s Demokratie (DE-588)4011413-2 s Öffentlichkeit (DE-588)4043183-6 s 1\p DE-604 Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Politische Beteiligung (DE-588)4076215-4 s 2\p DE-604 E-Government (DE-588)4728387-7 s 3\p DE-604 Blumler, Jay G. 1924-2021 Verfasser (DE-588)124148921 aut Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-52078-2 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-81752-3 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511818271 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
