Zusammenfassung: | This book presents a simple geometric model of voting as a tool to analyze parliamentary roll call data. Each legislator is represented by one point and each roll call is represented by two points that correspond to the policy consequences of voting Yea or Nay. On every roll call each legislator votes for the closer outcome point, at least probabilistically. These points form a spatial map that summarizes the roll calls. In this sense a spatial map is much like a road map because it visually depicts the political world of a legislature. The closeness of two legislators on the map shows how similar their voting records are, and the distribution of legislators shows what the dimensions are. These maps can be used to study a wide variety of topics including how political parties evolve over time, the existence of sophisticated voting and how an executive influences legislative outcomes |

In this sense a spatial map is much like a road map because it visually depicts the political world of a legislature. The closeness of two legislators on the map shows how similar their voting records are, and the distribution of legislators shows what the dimensions are. These maps can be used to study a wide variety of topics including how political parties evolve over time, the existence of sophisticated voting and how an executive influences legislative outcomes Mathematisches Modell Legislative bodies / Voting / Decision making / Mathematical models Social choice / Mathematical models Räumliche Verteilung (DE-588)4121550-3 gnd rswk-swf Rational Choice (DE-588)4274923-2 gnd rswk-swf Wahlverhalten (DE-588)4079009-5 gnd rswk-swf Wahl (DE-588)4064286-0 gnd rswk-swf Entscheidungsmodell (DE-588)4121201-0 gnd rswk-swf Mathematisches Modell (DE-588)4114528-8 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Wahlverhalten (DE-588)4079009-5 s Rational Choice (DE-588)4274923-2 s Mathematisches Modell (DE-588)4114528-8 s 1\p DE-604 Entscheidungsmodell (DE-588)4121201-0 s Räumliche Verteilung (DE-588)4121550-3 s 2\p DE-604 Wahl (DE-588)4064286-0 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-61747-5 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-85194-7 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511614644 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
