Zusammenfassung: | This 2002 book seeks to identify the motivations of individual perpetrators of ethnic violence. The work develops four models, labeled Fear, Hatred, Resentment, and Rage, gleaned from existing social science literatures. The empirical chapters apply these four models to important events of ethnic conflict in Eastern Europe, from the 1905 Russian Revolution to the collapse of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Each historical chapter generates questions about the timing and target of ethnic violence. The four models are then applied to the case, to learn which does the best job in explaining the observed patterns of ethnic conflict. The findings challenge conventional wisdom, in that the Resentment narrative, centered on a sense of unjust group status, provides the best fit for a variety of cases. While Fear, Hatred, and Rage do motivate hostile actions, Resentment pervasively appears to inflame ethnic animosity and drive outcomes in the timing and pattern of action |

Petersen Cambridge Cambridge University Press 2002 1 online resource (xiii, 296 pages) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Cambridge studies in comparative politics Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) This 2002 book seeks to identify the motivations of individual perpetrators of ethnic violence. While Fear, Hatred, and Rage do motivate hostile actions, Resentment pervasively appears to inflame ethnic animosity and drive outcomes in the timing and pattern of action Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1900-2000 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1905 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1918-2000 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1848-1998 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Ethnic conflict / Europe, Eastern / History / 20th century Gewalt (DE-588)4020832-1 gnd rswk-swf Minderheitenfrage (DE-588)4169999-3 gnd rswk-swf Europe, Eastern / Ethnic relations / History / 20th century Jugoslawien (DE-588)4028966-7 gnd rswk-swf Baltikum (DE-588)4004379-4 gnd rswk-swf Tschechoslowakei (DE-588)4078435-6 gnd rswk-swf Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 gnd rswk-swf Tschechoslowakei (DE-588)4078435-6 g Minderheitenfrage (DE-588)4169999-3 s Gewalt (DE-588)4020832-1 s Geschichte 1848-1998 z 1\p DE-604 Baltikum (DE-588)4004379-4 g Geschichte 1905 z 2\p DE-604 Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 g Geschichte 1900-2000 z 3\p DE-604 Jugoslawien (DE-588)4028966-7 g Geschichte 1918-2000 z 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-00774-0 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-80986-3 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511840661 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
