The book on Cooperative Movement in Ethiopia (Practices, problems and prospects) is
first of its kind, which dovetails the concept, principles of cooperatives, and the practices,
problems and prospects of Ethiopian cooperatives. This book covers the world cooperative
movement and African cooperative movement, Ethiopian Cooperative Movement, which
deals with historical perspectives of cooperative movement in Ethiopia (earlier and modern),
cooperative legal framework, regional cooperative movements, government and
cooperatives, department set up and structure of the cooperative movement, cooperative
auditing, organization and management of cooperatives, trend in cooperative education,
research and extension, cooperatives in agribusiness, gender issues, cooperative banking
and finance, cooperative marketing, causes for failure, suggestions, and scope for
organizing existing and innovative type of cooperatives.
Dr. M. Karthikeyan (b 1969) is Assistant Professor in the
Department of Cooperatives, Institute of Cooperatives and
Development Studies, Ambo University, Ethiopia. He has been in the
field of teaching and research for more than 15 years. He has
published 18 books and more than 35 papers at the regional and
national level journals in India and abroad. He has participated and
presented papers in the conferences, seminars and workshops at
state, regional, national and international levels. Dr.M.Karthikeyan has
associated in many major and minor research projects funded by national and
international agencies such as England Africa Partnership Project, CoopAfrica Health
Cooperative Feasibility Project (Core Committee member), and South - South African
Peer Partnered Project (Ambo, Ethiopia - NTTI, Kenya) initiated by Lorna Young
Foundation, UK. His main areas of interest are cooperative organization management,
cooperative governance, cooperative accounting audit, human resources management,
marketing, leadership and entrepreneurship, accounting information systems, MIS and
IT
Dr. S. NAKKIRAN (b. 1945) is a proficient author, researcher, teacher
and consultant in the fields of Management and Cooperatives for four
decades. He has published 13 books in the fields of management,
cooperation, research methods and training techniques. He has also
published more than 100 papers in Indian and international journals. He
has produced 31 PhDs and around 100 M.Phil’s. He was Head of PG
Department of Cooperation for Three decades and served as Principal
of two colleges before he took the present assignment in Ethiopia. He
is an external examiner for PhD theses of several Indian and foreign universities. He has
visited several countries and delivered guest lectures on issues relating to cooperatives
and management. He undertook several research projects funded by UGC, Planning
Commission-Government of India and The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Union. He is a consultant
to the International NGO- Self Help Development International (Ireland) and undertook
Feasibility studies, Business Plan and Baseline Surveys to them. He has initiated the
funding of England Africa Partnership Project (2006-2007) sponsored by DFID (UK) and
associated with its execution. He is also closely associated with several projects under
CoopAfrica. |
