journey through the complex and
turbulent History of tropical biology

conservation issues of our times for
rainforosts and coral roofs.
In this first book of its kind. Dr. Sapp
focusos on tho groat mysteries In
natural history: why there aro so

coexist there. Ho Introduces us to tho
personalities, heated controversies
and competing theories in regard to
biodiversity that have driven tropical
ecology and evolutionary science to
the present day. He deftly explains

the relations between biodiversity and
stability of ecological systems----from
rainforest floor to canopy, and from

of tropical species coexistence has not

of biodiversity have been revealed in
the first decades of the twenty-first
century. He explains why the meaning
of results in regard to the predictability
of ecosystems has changed in a world
dramatically transformed by humans,
and emphasizes the importance of
natural history for conservation and our
own coexistence.
