Zusammenfassung: | "This book introduces and explores Asian communities in the U.S., the Caribbean, and Latin America through literary, historical, and theoretical frameworks by bringing together the multiple cultural perspectives of an emerging field of study: the transnational field of Asians in the Americas. The new scholarship of these authors addresses familial, historical, and literary ties to Asia, while also introducing the contributions of Asians in the Americas in an interdisciplinary framework, easily accessible to students and scholars and amendable for course adoption. The subjects of these essays emphasize community by discussing identity, religion, culture, public health, business, language, film, and literature. They imagine the homeland and the possibilities that life in the country of residence holds. This volume seeks to understand the historically collapsed notion of Asians in the Americas, wherein Asian identity has been strategically invoked within rigid confines for political and ideological perspectives. Through a comparative framework, Imagining Asia in the Americas moves past research models that consider the immigrant as a static subject that cuts his ties with the homeland and immerses himself in a new identity specifically linked to the host country. Instead, they introduce new approaches to examine the intersections of the past and present in community formation as it is linked to the homeland as well as the resident country"...Provided by publisher |

spelling | Imagining Asia in the Americas edited by Zelideth María Rivas and Debbie Lee-DiStefano New Brunswick, New Jersey Rutgers University Press [2016] viii, 203 pages illustration txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier Asian American studies today Includes bibliographical references and index "This book introduces and explores Asian communities in the U.S., the Caribbean, and Latin America through literary, historical, and theoretical frameworks by bringing together the multiple cultural perspectives of an emerging field of study: the transnational field of Asians in the Americas. Instead, they introduce new approaches to examine the intersections of the past and present in community formation as it is linked to the homeland as well as the resident country"...Provided by publisher Einwanderer Gesellschaft Public opinion America Asians America Social conditions Immigrants America Social conditions Transnationalism Social aspects America Community life America Stereotyp (DE-588)4057329-1 gnd rswk-swf Fremdbild (DE-588)4127240-7 gnd rswk-swf Identität (DE-588)4026482-8 gnd rswk-swf Einwanderung (DE-588)4013960-8 gnd rswk-swf Asiatische Einwanderin (DE-588)7856812-2 gnd rswk-swf Amerika Asien Asia Relations America America Relations Asia Asia Foreign public opinion, American Asia Foreign public opinion, Caribbean Asia Foreign public opinion, Latin American Asien (DE-588)4003217-6 gnd rswk-swf Hawaii (DE-588)4023877-5 gnd rswk-swf Brasilien (DE-588)4008003-1 gnd rswk-swf Mexiko (DE-588)4039058-5 gnd rswk-swf Argentinien (DE-588)4002890-2 gnd rswk-swf Amerika (DE-588)4001670-5 gnd rswk-swf Kuba (DE-588)4033340-1 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Kuba (DE-588)4033340-1 g Argentinien (DE-588)4002890-2 g Mexiko (DE-588)4039058-5 g Hawaii (DE-588)4023877-5 g Brasilien (DE-588)4008003-1 g Einwanderung (DE-588)4013960-8 s Asien (DE-588)4003217-6 g Identität (DE-588)4026482-8 s DE-604 Amerika (DE-588)4001670-5 g Asiatische Einwanderin (DE-588)7856812-2 s Fremdbild (DE-588)4127240-7 s Stereotyp (DE-588)4057329-1 s Rivas, Zelideth María 1979- (DE-588)1118643038 edt Lee-DiStefano, Debbie 1969- (DE-588)137132719 edt Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, ePub 978-0-8135-8522-2 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, Web PDF 978-0-8135-8523-9 https://content.ub.hu-berlin.de/monographs/toc/ethnologie/BV043821711.pdf Inhaltsverzeichnis LoC Fremddatenuebernahme application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=029232701&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis HBZ Datenaustausch application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=029232701&sequence=000003&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
