Zusammenfassung: | The United States has long-defined the free flow of Persian Gulf oil as a key component of its grand strategy. Since the late 1970s, U.S. military force has increasingly become the instrument for achieving this end. The American objective of ensuring the flow of Persian Gulf oil, by force if necessary, has rarely been questioned by scholars or policymakers since the Gulf became the site of U.S. military deployments. It is time to reexamine the U.S. military commitment to keeping Gulf oil flowing. Quite dramatic changes have occurred in world oil markets, the regional balance of power, and the limits of US defense budgets. This opens up the possibility that the United States should significantly revise its policy toward the Persian Gulf--both in terms of how it defines its strategic interests in the region, and the means it uses to pursue them. This volume brings together scholars of international relations and US foreign policy to examine the history and effects of the US presence in the Gulf and to weigh the costs and benefits of either keeping US forces in the region or pulling back |

This volume brings together scholars of international relations and US foreign policy to examine the history and effects of the US presence in the Gulf and to weigh the costs and benefits of either keeping US forces in the region or pulling back Geschichte 1978-2015 gnd rswk-swf Petroleum industry and trade / Political aspects / Persian Gulf Region Diplomatic relations fast Military relations fast Petroleum industry and trade / Political aspects fast Strategic aspects of individual places fast Außenpolitik Diplomatische Beziehungen Politik Öl (DE-588)4043225-7 gnd rswk-swf Militärpolitik (DE-588)4065004-2 gnd rswk-swf Persian Gulf Region / Strategic aspects United States / Military relations / Persian Gulf Region Persian Gulf Region / Military relations / United States United States / Foreign relations / Persian Gulf Region Persian Gulf Region / Foreign relations / United States Middle East / Persian Gulf Region fast United States fast Naher Osten USA USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Golfstaaten (DE-588)4021571-4 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Golfstaaten (DE-588)4021571-4 g Öl (DE-588)4043225-7 s Militärpolitik (DE-588)4065004-2 s Geschichte 1978-2015 z DE-604 Glaser, Charles L. 1954- (DE-588)14155195X edt Kelanic, Rosemary A.
