505 | 8 | |a "Traditionally few people challenged the distinction between absolute and selective conscientious objection by those being asked to carry out military duties. The former is an objection to fighting all wars - a position generally respected and accommodated by democratic states, while the latter is an objection to a specific war or conflict - theoretically and practically a much harder idea to accept and embrace for military institutions. However, a decade of conflict not clearly aligned to vital national interests, combined with recent acts of selective conscientious objection by members of the military, have led some to reappraise the situation and argue that selective conscientious objection ought to be legally recognized and permitted. Political, social and philosophical factors lie behind these new interests which together mean that the time is ripe for a fresh and thorough evaluation of the topic. This book brings together arguments for and against selective conscientious objection, as well as case studies examining how different countries deal with those who claim the status of selective conscientious objectors. As such, it sheds new light on a topic of increasing importance to those concerned with miliary ethics and public policy, within military institutions, government and academia"--Unedited summary from book cover | |

Carl Ficarrotta -- War resisters in the US and Britain -- supporting the case for a right to selective conscientious objection? / Andrea Ellner -- The practice and philosophy of selective conscientious objection / Andrea Ellner, Paul Robinson and David Whetham -- Bibliography "Traditionally few people challenged the distinction between absolute and selective conscientious objection by those being asked to carry out military duties. As such, it sheds new light on a topic of increasing importance to those concerned with miliary ethics and public policy, within military institutions, government and academia"--Unedited summary from book cover Selective conscientious objection Selective conscientious objection fast Kriegsdienstverweigerung gnd Soldat gnd Vapenvägran / etik och moral sao Krig sao Ansvar sao BUSINESS & ECONOMICS / Business Ethics bisacsh Wirtschaft Kriegsdienstverweigerung (DE-588)4033123-4 gnd rswk-swf Verweigerung (DE-588)4250678-5 gnd rswk-swf Militär (DE-588)4039305-7 gnd rswk-swf Befehl (DE-588)4144277-5 gnd rswk-swf Soldat (DE-588)4055409-0 gnd rswk-swf Gewissensfreiheit (DE-588)4132798-6 gnd rswk-swf Ethik (DE-588)4015602-3 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Soldat (DE-588)4055409-0 s Gewissensfreiheit (DE-588)4132798-6 s Befehl (DE-588)4144277-5 s Verweigerung (DE-588)4250678-5 s Militär (DE-588)4039305-7 s Ethik (DE-588)4015602-3 s 2\p DE-604 Kriegsdienstverweigerung (DE-588)4033123-4 s 3\p DE-604 Ellner, Andrea edt Robinson, Paul 1966- edt Whetham, David edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe When soldiers say no 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
