SUMMARY
Autochthonous Albanian population, who are descendants of the
Illyrians lived in ancient times, is scattered throughout much of the
western part of the Balkan Peninsula.
However, the Albanian community have constantly suffered the
invasion of foreign forces, large population movements and the scene of
battle in a very long history and was taken to its borders today with the
end of the empires in the region and as a result of the establishment of
many new nation states.
Albanians, throughout the long history of wars, disasters,
epidemics, economic difficulties and blood feuds, have been constantly
on the move from one place to another place (in their territory).
H. i. Kelmendi’s ancestors also have been forced to migrate in the
Albanian region in the last two hundred years.
H. 1. Kelmendi ancestors have received their surnames from,
where they come from, FIS: the motherland of Klan’s and the
mountainous region tom between northern Albania, Montenegro and
Kosovo, and originally caled Albanian Alps valleys of the known as the
Alps.
Towards the end of the 17th century, many Catholic Albanian
family, fled from a major operation that the Ottoman Army had started
and migrated to Dukagjin in Kosovo and converted to Islam to survive.
Kelmendi’s ancestors after converting to Islam in Vuthaj, settled
down in Mayastena village located in the country of Toplica, under the
Nishi district in northern Kosovo between the years 1690 - 1695, and
made ends meet with husbandry and agriculture.
During the Ottoman-Russian war in 1877-1878, with the collapse
of the Pleven defense, Serbs, guided and given directives by the
Russians, occupied the starboard Nishi and operated great slaughter and
massacre.
As a result of the Serb massacre, like thousands of Albanian
families, Kelmendi s family had to leave everything behind and

immigrated to a more secure place, central Kosovo in order to save their
lives
Kelmendi s grandfather and great-grandfather, moved from one
place to another during 20 years to find a place to shelter the family.
And,finally in 1898, bought a home in Prishtina and settled down there
and lived on commerce and agriculture.
After the Balkan War between 1912 and 1913, as Serbs occupied
the entire Kosovo, life has become unbearable for the Albanians in
general and especially those who immigrated from North Kosovo.
Kelmendi’s grandfather Emin Selimi, who was the imam of a
small neighborhood mosque, provided the town’s children with a
religious education. He also provided his own children’s education by
sending his older son, who is also the father of H.i. Kelmendi to
madrassa to complete his Muslim education and his younger son Selim,
to Tirana Military Academy. His only advice to his children was always
to complete their education and to have a profession both, which was an
unusual approach for the time. And his children and grandchildren
followed his advice and became tailors, shoemakers, carpenters, cabinet
makers. Kelmendi’s grandfather also cared very much that his
descendants become humanists and patriots.
At the end of World War II, Kosovo rescued from German
occupation again faced with the danger of Serb occupation.
Mullah Emin s 3 sons; Selim, Bayram and Hamdi participated in
the struggle to protect Kosovo from Serb occupation, defended the city of
Ferizaj with Zia Gashi battalion under the command of Selim. However,
they failed over against the Serbian forces who were outnumbered and
better equipped and felt martyrs on December 3rd, 1944.
Progressive, bald with a patriotic family Kelmendi - Magastena
family resisted the Serbian Communist government, and as a result, they
have been subjected to constant pressure, intimidation and maltreatment.
The Serbs confiscated all of their property and possessions, they were
banned from all economic activities from any public office labor.
At every opportunity, their house was sacked with a pretext, their
books were confiscated, Kelmendi’s grandfather and father were
frequently arrested, imprisoned and subjected to severe torture. The

purposes of this pressure on the city s prominent Albanian families were
mainly to force them to withdraw from Kosovo and to accelerate their
migration to Turkey by broad masses and thus, to change the region s
demographic structure in favor of the Serbs.
Like many families, Kelmendi’s family resisted for a long time
however, with the Domestic Affairs Minister Aleksandar Rankovic’
ethnic cleansing campaign between 1955 and 1960, they had to leave the
city with 350,000 migrants. The Islam Emini’s inl956, and The Molla
Emin’s 1960 were forced to immigrate to Turkey.
Kelmendi’s family settled in Kutahya where their previously
immigrated relatives-holding Turkish immigration documents- lived, and
then to Eski§ehir (Eskisheher)and Samsun respectively. Hayri t^li
Kelmendi goes to high school in Samsun and then leaves for Istanbul to
study in istanbul University’s Economy Faculty, where he graduates in
1972. During this college years, he began working in the tourism sector
and continues in the same sector after graduation.
After completing his delayed military service in 1980, Kelmendi
established his company with two friends from the same industry
“Tentour”, started to operate as an “Incoming Travel Agency” and
became one of the pioneers operating in Greece in its early years, and
Italy, Spain and France after. Tentour brought tourists from
Mediterranean countries to Istanbul, the Aegean Region and Cappadocia
with History and Culture Tourism and with the development of
investment in hotels in coastal areas , they began “Sejour Tourism” and
the mass tourism known as SSS (Sea, Sun, Sand).
Turgut Ozal, who came to power in Turkish general elections in
1983, have paved the way for the tourism sector with his campaign to
open Turkey to the outside world and to integrate with Western
economic.
Ruled by H.L Kelmendi, invested in Tourist Bus Transportation,
in accommodation facilities, in the Hotel and Restaurant chain and in
touristic malls. Then, with the vision to invest to tour operators who are
sending mass tourists from Europe to turkey and established Europe’s
premier network between the tour operators from 7 countries.

With the establishment of the network, Tentour had to adapt to
the environment and invest in aviation to bring large number of tourists
to the country and to compete with other players as competition became
very intense in the beginning of 90’s. First, they bought 50% of newly
established Onur Air, then bought 30% more of the shares in the same
year reaching to 80% by the end of the year and then, 100% next year as
Onur Air became Turkey’s first private airlines company.
In 1998 and 1999, difficult times come to tourism sector with the
world economic crisis’ reflections to Turkey, with the terror attacks
derived from the capture of A.Ozalan in Kenya and the earthquakes in
Marmara Region, around Istanbul that caused 35.000 people’s loss.
With the current situation, Tentour had to make a decision to step
back and operate solely as a local company in Turkey. With the Board’s
decision, Tentour retreats to Turkey and sells the operations in Europe.
After overseas tour operators’ liquidation, they decided to leave
after 20 years in an amicable way as they have come together 20 years
ago. According to agreement between the partners, assets of Tentour
Group were given back to three partners, except Onur Air.
Onur Air continues its operations under Cankut Bagana’s
leadership and with the two other partners in the board. However, by
2003, Hayri i ?li Kelmendi and Unsal Tiilbent9i assign their shares to
Cankut Bagana and left the aviation sector for good.
After separation of the partners, the former joint company was
restructured by Kelmendi as an “Investment Company”, operated
successfully by H.I.Kelmendi’s son Devrim Arben Ljli with the
companies below:

Kelmendi worked hard without a break during long years and
conducted vocational trainings for the company’s and the employees’
professional development. He paid very much attention to transfer his

To understand his works, the business he established and developed and
his professional achievements, Kelmendi s very close and humanist
attitude towards people from each location and economical class and the

and warm relationship with the people from the tourism industry and
gained people’s empathy, affection and respect. Among being rule-
bound, pursuer and self-disciplined character, H.i. Kelmendi became a
fellow man to his employees and executives by conducting very polite,
very intimate and very decent leader.

Antik faglarda ya§ayan iLLYRiA Halkinm torunlari olan,
otokton Amavut halki, Balkan yarimadasmin batisinm büyük bölümüne
dagilmi§tir. Ancak Amavut toplumu 90k uzun tarihsel ge^ini^ i^inde,
sürekli yabanci güflerin i§galine ugrami§, büyük nüfus hareketlerine ve
savaslara sahne olinus ve en sonunda 19. ve 20.YY sonunda

Amavut halki, uzun tarihi boyunca, sava§lar, afetler, salgin
hastallklar, ekonomik zorluklar ve kan davalan nedeniyle sürekli olarak
bir yerden ba§ka bir yere ( kendi topraklannda) hareket halinde olmu§tur.
H.i. Kelmendi’nin atalan da son iki yüz yilda Amavut
cografyasmda oradan oraya gö9 etmek zorunda kalmi^lardir.
H.i Kelmendi’nin atalari, ait olduklan ve soyadlanm aldiklan

H.i.KELMENDI’nin ailesi de sadece canlanm kurtarabilmek i9in sahip
olduklan her §eyi birakip daha güvenli olan merkezi Kosova’ya
gö9mü§lerdir.

1912/1913 Balkan harbi sonrasinda, Sirplar Kosova’yi ttimuyle

H.i.Kelmendi’nin dedesi Emin Selimi, kii^uk bir camide imamlik
yaparken mahalle focuklarma da dini egitim vermi§tir. Zaman i9erisinde
dogan kendi 9ocuklarmin egitimine onem vermi§, biiyUk oglu islami (
H.i.K babasi) islami Egitim almasi i9in medreseye gondermi§, ikinci oglu
Selimin ilk ve orta ogrenimini tamamlamasmdan sonra Tirana Askeri
Akademisine gondermi§tir. (/ocuklarma verdigi ogiit daima, hem
okumalan hem de aym zamanda bir meslek sahibi olmasi gerektigi

H.i.Kelmendi’ nin dedesi 9oeuklari ve torunlannm okul ve
mesleki egitimleri yanmda onlann insan sevgisiyle dolu birer yurtsever
olarak yeti§tirilmeleri i9in 90k 9aba gbstermi§tir. 2. Dtinya sava§i
sonunda Alman i§galinden kurtulan Kosova, Tekrar Sirp i§gali
tehlikesiyle kar$i kar§iya kalmi§tir.
Molla Emin’nin 3 oglu Selim, Bayram ve Hamdi Kosova’yi Sirp
i§galinden koruma mucadelesine katilmi§lar, Selim Emin’nin
komutasmdaki ‘’Zia Gashi” batalyonuyla Ferizaj kentini savunmu^lar
ancak sayica 90k daha biiyuk ve donanmalari daha iyi olan Sirp gu9leri
kar^indi ba§anli olamami§lar ve 03.12.1944 tarihinde Ferizaj’da §ehit
du$mu$lerdir.
ilerici yurt sever bir aile olan Kelmendi - Macastena ailesi, Sirp
Komiinist yonetimine direnmi§ bunun sonucu surekli olarak baski,
yildirma ve kotti muameleye maruz kalmi§lardir. Mai ve miilklerine el
konulmu§, turn ekonomik faaliyetlerden menedilmi§ ve pek tabii olarak
hi9bir kamu gorevi almalarma izin verilmemi§tir.
Her firsatta, bir bahane uydurulmu§, evleri “basilarak talan
edilmif kitaplan miisadere edilmi§, H.i.Kelmendi’nin dedesi ve babasi
sik sik tutuklamp hapse atilmi§ ve agir i§kencelere tabi tutulmu§lardir.
Kisa ôzet
Kentin taninmi§ Amavut ailelerine yapilan bu baskilann amaci, onlan
Kosova’dan ayrilmaya zorlayarak geni§ kitlelerin Türkiye’ye gôç
etmelerini hizlandirmak. Bolgenin demografik yapismi Sirplarm lehine
degiçtirmek olmuçtur.
Birçok aile gibi H.Î.Kelmendi ‘nin ailesi de uzun sûre bu
baskilara direnmiç, ancak “ Aleksander Rankoviç (îçiçleri Bakani)
1955/1960 yillan arasindaki etnik temizlik kampanyasi sonunda 350.000
Kosovali Amavut gibi 1956 yilinda islam Emini ve ailesi 1960 yilinda da

H.i.Kelmendi’nin ailesi sadece ôzel eçyalariyla geldikleri
Türkiye’de once gôç belgelerini temin eden yakinlari orada yaçadigi için
Kütahya’ya yerleçmiç daha sonra sirasiyla Eskiçehir (Eskisheher)ve
Samsuna gôç etmiçlerdir. H.Î.Kelmendi Samsun da Lise egitimini
tamamladiktan sonra istanbul Üniversitesi îktisat Fakültesinde
yüksekôgrenimini sürdürmüç ve 1971/1972 yilinda mezun olmuçtur.
Ôgrenim yaçami boyunca, birçok içte çaliçmak dummunda kalan
H.i.KELMENDÎ Üniversite yaçaminm ilk yillarindan itibaren Turizm
alanmda çali§maya baçlamiç ve mezuniyetinden sonra da aym sektôrde i§
yaçamim sürdürmü§tür.
H.Í.KELEMENDÍ 1980 yilinda gecikmiç askeri hizmet gôrevini
tamamladiktan sonra, aym sektôrden iki arkadaçiyla birlikte kendi çirketi

1983 yilindaki genel seçimlerinde iktidara gelen Turgut ÓZAL ‘m
izledigi Diç Dünyaya açilma ve Bâti Ekonomileriyle entegre olmak
politikasi, birçok sektôrün oldugu gibi Turizmin de ônünü açmiçtir.

1998/1999 Dünya ekonomik krizinin Türkiye’ye de yansimasi ve

grubunun mevcut durumunu korumasi gü9le§mi§, ya yeni bir atilimla,
uluslar ötesi ( Transnational ) bir i§letmeye dönü§mesi veya *’ Bir adim
geri atarak “ sadece Türkiye §irketi olarak faaliyetlerini sürdürmesi
noktasma gelinmi§tir. Ü9 ortak arasinda yapilan görü^mel erden sonra,
Yurtdi§i Tour Operatörleri satilarak ” Türkiye’ye pekilme” karan
alinmi§tir.
Yurtdi§i Tur Operatörleri satildiktan sonra, ortaklar arasinda
vanlan mutabakat geregince, TenTour grubunun aktifleri
degerlendirilmi§ ve Ü9 ortak, 20 yil önce nasil bir araya gelmi§lerse, 20
yil sonra da dostane bir §ekilde aynlmaya karar vermi$ledir.
