School, Keber actively kept company with the sea, ships and sailing for the following
thirteen years.
He currently works at the Port Authority in the town of Bakar.
Keber began making miniature boats at a young age thanks to the help of his father.
His involvement as such intensified in high school, where, under the supervision of
teachers in technical studies, he started participating in competitions. He later
continued being active through a Ship Modelling Club, but he was mostly self-taught,
learning from the environment. Keber has been committed to ship modelling for 40
years.
Until now, he has held twenty six solo exhibitions in Bakar, Rijeka, Zagreb, Murter
Moscenice, Sibenik, Portoroz, Ljubljana and Brest, and has also taken part in
collective exhibitions in Rijeka, Krk, Punat, Senj, Zagreb, Italy (Trieste, Grado and
Chioggia), Portugal (Lisbon - Expo 98) and Canada (Vancouver BC, 2001), as well as
competing in Rijeka, Zagreb and London (1979).
Furthermore, he has participated in international competitions in the Czech Republic
(Jablonec, 1993), Switzerland (St. Gallen, 1997), Poland (Gdansk, 1998) and Belgium
(Mons, 2000), including European competitions in Spain (Barcelona, 1999) and the
Czech Republic (Kromeriz, 2001).
As the head of Rijeka ship model makers, he has prepared numerous joint exhibitions
and in 1995 initiated a national championships organised in accordance to
international rales. Since 1997, he has been an international judge for model
shipbuilding.
Keber is also the author of the national rales for the assessment of domicile model
ships and boats that evaluate the research work.
In 1997, he participated at the annual meeting of NAVIGA, when Croatia was
accepted as a full member of the international association for model shipbuilding.
Until 2004, he served as the president of the Croatian Association of Ship Modellers.
In 1998, he represented Croatia at the international collaborative competition in
Poland (Gdansk). One gold, two silver and five bronze medals were won at the world
competition.
He is the author of a didactic programme for elementary school children interested in
building wooden boats as beginners. The same programme has been registered at the
Croatian Institute for Patents. He holds courses in Zagreb, Rijeka, Bakar, Murter and
Brest and follows the same programme.
From 2001 until 2005, he held lectures on maritime and model shipbuilding in the
Rijeka Centre of Technical Culture, the Rijeka Maritime and History Museum of the
Croatian Littoral, the Bakar Maritime School and the Faculty of Maritime Studies in
Rijeka.
Over the last twenty years, he has been interested in reconstructive radio controlled
model shipbuilding and has researched and presented fifteen models (types) of
traditional boats and sailboats, promoting Adriatic wooden shipbuilding and Croatian
maritime: fishery, transport and shipbuilding. The results of his research and work
were collectively combined under the title Architectura navalis Adriatica in three
book editions: Traditional boats of the Croatian Adriatic (Croatian - English bilingual

SAZETAK
Istrazivanjem povijesno-izvomih podataka tradicionalnih barki i
brodova hrvatskoga Jadrana doznaje se tipologija, evolucija,
arhitektura.
kuca, grad, svijet. Drvo i jedra ni su mrtva povijest, vec svjedoci
vjecne uravnotezenosti covjeka i prirode (ponekad i narusene),
povijesnih podataka (u ovom slucaju) hrvatskih tradicionalnih barki
i brodova (jedrenjaka), zaokruzuje prethodnu siroku djelatnost
premjeravanja, crtanja i slikanja, konzultiranja mjerodavne
povijesne grade, a prethodi konacnom cilju svake rekonstrukcije:
izradi replike u prirodnoj velicini kojom se dalje istrazuje
materijalni, ali i duhovni (nematerijalni) golemi svijet hrvatske
pomorske bastine.
beskonacno nadograduju stecena znanja i prihvacaju nove
cinjenice.
Ovaj projekt predstavlja deset razlicitih barki i jedrenjaka Istre,
Hrvatskog primorja i Dalmacije, kojima se mogu iskazati
najvaznije karakteristike brodogradnje i plovidbe, prijevoznistva i
ribarstva, odnosno priobalnoga zivljenja u smjeni proteklih dvaju
stoljeca. Ovdje se nastoji, u jednostavnim i najkracim crtama,
progovoriti o osnovnim osobinama pojedinih primjeraka
tradicionalne drvene brodogradnje. Dopuna je i pojasnjenje vec
davno objavljenim tekstovima u mnogobrojnim edicijama.
svaku brodicu posebno, visestoljetno, bogato, hrvatsko nazivlje, i
Vidovica (Split: Logos, 1984).
Doneseni nacrti glavni su i najvazniji dio istrazivackog projekta;
pomorski arheolozi, pomorski povjesnicari, mali brodograditelji,
pomorski istrazivaci i teoreticari negó i bezbrojni maketari zedni
nacrta i uputa za gradnju hrvatskoga brodovlja.

SUMMARY
By studying the historical and original data of traditional boats and
ships of the Croatian Adriatic, we learn of their typology, evolution,
architecture. The core strength of this architecture is its simplicity,
beauty and naturalness, as well as spatial balance as measured
according to human proportions (thumb - foot - grip) and for man
such as the ground beneath our feet, a house, a city, the world.
Wood and sails are not pieces of dead history but rather witnesses of
the eternal balance between man and nature (which is sometimes
disturbed); it is a relation from which man had emerged and to which
he has always aspired, whether he acknowledges it or not.
Reconstructive model making is a special form of research of
historical data (and in this case) of Croatian traditional boats and
ships (sailing boats), which encompasses the former broad procedure
that used to include measuring, drawing and painting, and consulting
the relevant historical materials which precedes the final goal of any
reconstruction: and that is to produce life-size replicas through which
the huge material and spiritual (non-material) world of Croatian
maritime heritage can be further explored.
Presentation and promotion of the achievements are the end and the
beginning of each reconstruction when, for the umpteenth time, there
is always an infinite upgrading of acquired knowledge as new facts
are being accepted from new sources.
This 'project' presents ten different boats and sailboats from Istria,
Croatian Littoral and Dalmatia, which display the most important
characteristics of shipbuilding and navigation, transport and fishery,
as well as coastal living at the turn of the past two centuries. The aim
here, in simple and short, is to bring to discussion the most basic
characteristics of individual examples of traditional wooden
shipbuilding. This is the addition and enhancement of articles which
have long been published in numerous publications.
The 'symbiosis' between a drawing and an image is descriptive and
attempts to explicate for each boat separately, the centuries-old and
extremely rich Croatian terminology, which has primarily been based
on the excellent maritime dictionary by R. Vidovic (Split: Logos,
1984).
Adopted plans encompass the majority of the research project and are
most important; they try to be comprehensive but not extremely
detailed. They can also serve as a starting point or incentive and
certainly as a proposal for further study, which does not mean that
they can be useful to marine archaeologists, maritime historians,
'small' boat builders, marine researchers and theorists alone, but also
to countless modellers who are eager to have draft guidelines and
instructions in building the Croatian fleet.

unzaehligen Editionen veroeffentlichten Texte.
Autor R. Vidovic (Split: Logos, 1984.), basiert.
keinen Gebrauch machen koennen.
dalfequilibrio ambiéntale verso l'uomo (pollice piede impugnatura) -
basa principalmente sull'ottimo dizionario marittimo dell'autore R.
Vidovic (Spalato: Logos, 1984.).
