Zusammenfassung: | The reconstruction of society after conflict is complex and multifaceted. This book investigates this theme as it relates to cultural heritage through a number of case studies relating to European wars since 1864. The case studies show in detail how buildings, landscapes, and monuments become important agents in post-conflict reconstruction, as well as how their meanings change and how they become sites of competition over historical narratives and claims. Looking at iconic and lesser-known sites, this book connects broad theoretical discussions of reconstruction and memorialisation to specific physical places, and in the process it traces shifts in their meanings over time. This book identifies common threads and investigates their wider implications. It explores the relationship between cultural heritage and international conflict, paying close attention to the long aftermaths of acts of destruction and reconstruction and making important contributions through the use of new empirical evidence and critical theory |

It explores the relationship between cultural heritage and international conflict, paying close attention to the long aftermaths of acts of destruction and reconstruction and making important contributions through the use of new empirical evidence and critical theory Funde Gesellschaft Cultural property / Protection / Europe Postwar reconstruction / Europe Memorialization / Europe War and society / Europe Architecture and war / Europe Historic preservation / Social aspects / Europe Historic sites / Conservation and restoration / Europe Monuments / Conservation and restoration / Europe Landscape protection / Europe Schutz (DE-588)4180271-8 gnd rswk-swf Historische Stätte (DE-588)4120448-7 gnd rswk-swf Kulturerbe (DE-588)4033560-4 gnd rswk-swf Europa Europe / Antiquities Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Historische Stätte (DE-588)4120448-7 s Kulturerbe (DE-588)4033560-4 s Schutz (DE-588)4180271-8 s 2\p DE-604 Sørensen, Marie Louise Stig edt Viejo-Rose, Dacia edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-1-107-05933-7 Print https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781107444911 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
