Zusammenfassung: | This volume analyses the importance of history, the textual resources of the past and the integration of Christian and imperial Rome into the cultural memory of early medieval Europe within the wider question of identity formation. The case studies in this book shed new light on the process of codification and modification of cultural heritage in the light of the transmission of texts and the extant manuscript evidence from the early middle ages. The authors demonstrate how particular texts and their early medieval manuscript representatives in Italy, Francia, Saxony and Bavaria not only reflect ethnic, social and cultural identities but themselves contributed to the creation of identities, gave meaning to social practice, and were often intended to inspire, guide, change, or prevent action, directly or indirectly. These texts are shown to be part of a cultural effort to shape the present by restructuring the past |

These texts are shown to be part of a cultural effort to shape the present by restructuring the past Bible / Influence / Medieval civilization Geschichte 392-814 gnd rswk-swf Bibel Geschichte Civilization, Medieval / Roman influences Civilization, Medieval / Sources Manuscripts, Medieval / History Collective memory / Europe / History Group identity / Europe / History Handschrift (DE-588)4023287-6 gnd rswk-swf Kollektives Gedächtnis (DE-588)4200793-8 gnd rswk-swf Schriftlichkeit (DE-588)4077162-3 gnd rswk-swf Geschichtsschreibung (DE-588)4020531-9 gnd rswk-swf Europa Europe / History / 392-814 (DE-588)4135952-5 Quelle gnd-content Kollektives Gedächtnis (DE-588)4200793-8 s Geschichtsschreibung (DE-588)4020531-9 s Schriftlichkeit (DE-588)4077162-3 s Handschrift (DE-588)4023287-6 s Geschichte 392-814 z DE-604 Gantner, Clemens 1981- (DE-588)142145610 edt McKitterick, Rosamond 1949- (DE-588)129701327 edt Meeder, Sven 1978- (DE-588)1038060389 edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-1-107-09171-9 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-1-107-46382-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781316134269 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
