Zusammenfassung: | This book traces the spread of a global anti-imperialism from the vantage point of Paris between the two World Wars, where countless future leaders of Third World countries spent formative stints. Exploring the local social context in which these emergent activists moved, the study delves into assassination plots allegedly hatched by Chinese students, demonstrations by Latin American nationalists, and the everyday lives of Algerian, Senegalese and Vietnamese workers. On the basis of police reports and other primary sources, the book foregrounds the role of migration and interaction as driving forces enabling challenges to the imperial world order, weaving together the stories of peoples of three continents. Drawing on the scholarship of twentieth-century imperial, international and global history as well as migration, race and ethnicity in France, it ultimately proposes a new understanding of the roots of the Third World idea |

Vernacularizing nationalism : an outcome foretold? -- Biographical appendix This book traces the spread of a global anti-imperialism from the vantage point of Paris between the two World Wars, where countless future leaders of Third World countries spent formative stints. Drawing on the scholarship of twentieth-century imperial, international and global history as well as migration, race and ethnicity in France, it ultimately proposes a new understanding of the roots of the Third World idea Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1918-1939 gnd rswk-swf Einwanderer Entwicklungsländer Geschichte Kolonie Nationalismus Politik Anti-imperialist movements / France / Paris / History / 20th century Political activists / France / Paris / History / 20th century Immigrants / France / Paris / History / 20th century Nationalism / France / Paris / History / 20th century Nationalism / Developing countries / History / 20th century Antiimperialismus (DE-588)4142673-3 gnd rswk-swf Einwanderer (DE-588)4151434-8 gnd rswk-swf Nationalismus (DE-588)4041300-7 gnd rswk-swf Kulturkontakt (DE-588)4033569-0 gnd rswk-swf Politisches Handeln (DE-588)4128597-9 gnd rswk-swf Beziehung (DE-588)4145198-3 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich Paris (France) / Politics and government / 20th century Paris (France) / Ethnic relations / History / 20th century France / Relations / Developing countries Developing countries / Relations / France France / Colonies / History / 20th century Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf Entwicklungsländer (DE-588)4014954-7 gnd rswk-swf Paris (DE-588)4044660-8 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g Paris (DE-588)4044660-8 g Beziehung (DE-588)4145198-3 s Entwicklungsländer (DE-588)4014954-7 g Kulturkontakt (DE-588)4033569-0 s Einwanderer (DE-588)4151434-8 s Politisches Handeln (DE-588)4128597-9 s Geschichte 1918-1939 z 1\p DE-604 Antiimperialismus (DE-588)4142673-3 s Nationalismus (DE-588)4041300-7 s 2\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-1-107-07305-0 (DE-604)BV042892361 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-1-107-42135-6 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781139681001 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
