of urine from the kidneya These tube-like devices are inserted into thei-f,
ureter to maintain an open canal or to help with healing after trauma,
surgery or radiotherapy. ^ ; v
Recent developments have led to the introduction of a new generation
of stents for use not just in the ureter but also in the prostate and
urethra. These employ a variety of designs* materials and coatings and
aim to counter side effects such as dislocation; irritation, infection and
encrustation.
Handbook of Urinary Stents: Basic Science and Clinical Applications
has been written to provide urologists with a practical guide to
the various stents available to clinicians today, the criteria for their
selection, their clinical application and potential complications^ use.
