The Advances in Chemical Physics series is dedicated to reviewing new and
emerging topics as well as the latest developments in traditional areas of study
in the field of chemical physics. Each volume features detailed comprehensive
analyses coupled with individual points of view that integrate the many disciplines
of science that are needed for a full understanding of chemical physics.
Volume 159, in memory of Professor Moshe Shapiro, explores the latest research
findings, applications, and new research paths in the field of quantum dynamics.
The essays examine a variety of topics with an emphasis on intramolecular dynamics,
adiabatic processes, coherent and incoherent dynamic control of systems,
and so on. With contributions from an international team of leading experts,
Volume 159 offers 10 comprehensive reviews including:
* Photoinduced bond cleavage and intramolecular dynamics
* Coherent to incoherent dynamical control of open quantum systems
• Control of coherent electron dynamics
♦ Quantum dynamics by partitioning technique
* Laser control of ultrafast molecular rotation
Reviews published in Advances in Chemical Physics are typically longer than
those published in journals, providing the space needed for readers to fully
grasp the topic: the fundamentals as well as the latest discoveries, applications,
and emerging avenues of research. With extensive cross-referencing that enables
readers to explore the primary research studies underlying each topic, this is the
perfect supplement for researchers as well as advanced graduate students in
physical chemistry or chemical physics.
PAUL BRUMER, PhD, is Distinguished University Professor and Roel Buck Professor
of Chemical Physics in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto,
Canada. He received his doctorate at Harvard University and is engaged in research
in several areas of theoretical chemical physics including laser control of molecular
dynamics, as well as coherence, incoherence, and decoherence in iight-induced
molecular processes.
STUART A. RICE, PhD, received his master s degree and doctorate from Harvard
University and was a junior fellow at Harvard for 2 years before joining the faculty of the
University of Chicago in 1957, where he is currently the Frank P. Hixon Distinguished
Service Professor Emeritus.
AARON R. DINNER, PhD, received his bachelor s degree and doctorate
from Harvard University, after which he conducted postdoctoral research at the
University of Oxford and the University of California, Berkeley. He joined the faculty
at the University of Chicago in 2003.
