Conclusion
In the whole USSR and in Kazakhstan in particular the system of
camps for war prisoners and internees developed in line with the emerged
situation that was totally conditioned by the necessity to place somewhere
arriving contingents.
But despite numerous documents targeted to improve camps’ detention
conditions, they sometimes were beyond the basic requirements and
standards. Moreover, despite the measures taken to prevent various
diseases and epidemics, especially during first years of camps functioning,
mortality level was very high. Besides all other reasons that is explained
with the lack of food and clothing supplies.
Hungarian servicemen turned out to be war prisoners thanks to
revanchist moods reigning in the Government during the period between
the World War I and the World War II. Those moods conditioned the choice
of the ally and resulted in Soviet camps, where Hungarian servicemen
were detained together with other nationalities in quite tough conditions.
Famine, lack of facilities of places they lived in, sometimes being
arranged not taking into consideration climatic conditions, insufficient
medical servicing, arduous labor - those were things ordinary people
received for their participation in the War and faith in those ideals their
country was fighting for.
Residence of Hungarian military prisoners in Karaganda area was
the composite element of the common process of residency of military
prisoners in the Second World War in the USSR. The Soviet political
administration considered Japanese military prisoners as additional
labor force for the reconstruction of the soviet economy and solution
of industrial problems in development of the eastern parts of the Soviet
Union.
Food supply and clothing allowance of Japanese military prisoners
was organized according to norms established by NKVD-MIA USSR.
Food supply was tendency to be increased or decreased determined by
the reason complex of subjective and objective character. In the course of
the main reasons were: drought and crop failure of the first post-war year,
scarcity of material and food resources, bad employment discipline of
employees in camp administration, grabbing and embezzlement.

Health service of Hungarian military prisoners was like a complicated
and various picture. The main components were to create possible
necessary living conditions, supplying of season clothing and shoes,
disease prophylactics, organization of out-patient service, in-patient
service and health feeding of patients with dystrophy and tuberculoses.
The complex of remedial measures promoted to keeping of prisoners’
physical condition, and soled the task in promotion of labor fond on the
national level.
As per repatriation of Hungarian war prisoners, it had been proceeding
within the common framework of the all-Union process during 1945-
1953 and was executed by the Soviet repatriation bodies in accordance
with duties accepted.
In general we dare to assert that the desire to put the historical record
straight in territorial matters and return back ethnical Hungarians became
the major factors that led hundreds of thousands Hungarian citizens to
death of captivity.
We may only hope for the world has learned the lesson from the history
and modem leaders of world countries would not expose human lives to
risk just to satisfy some ambitions.
