Women and the Confusion in the »Natural Order«
The social gender order with included womans subjection has been in force
through centuries as a natural phenomenon, justified by various spiritual means.
The author firstly delineates two key forms of spirituality (religious and scientific)
that are connected by the common creator (man) and also by the similar mode
of the basing of male superiority (man as a mediator of Gods will and as a stake-
holder of reason). In contemporaneity, these two spiritualities do coexist, but both
are in slow change (otherwise unequally, the religious one more on the surface,
the scientific is on the beginning of structural changes) due to the increasing por-
tion of women in the shaping of scientific spirituality as above all their greater and
greater participation in public activities and life.
The article is focused on the presentation of changes of mass awareness in Slo-
venian post-socialist society in regard to the traditional gender order. The data
collected by ISSP, EVS (within the Slovenian public opinion poll) investigations
from 1991 to 2012 show (partially also gender different) the decrease of the favour
to the traditional sexist determination of identity and social role of women (and
men) and the increasing acceptance of the egalitarian orientation in spite of the
endeavours for the revitalization of the “natural order”.

Women s Spirituality in Slovenia: Between Taboo and Existence
Paper deals, in the first place, with utmost important but moreover (histori-
cally) overlooked gender dimension in the field of spirituality. It focuses on dif-
ferent forms of womens spirituality and spiritual praxes and defines the post of
spirituality in contemporary post-modern world and points out the urge to modify
new collective awareness and revival of womens principle.

In short, it defines presence of negative gender stereotypes and prejudices re-
garding the question of meaning of women as spiritual companian in Slovenian
Catholic religious sphere.
The contribution points out the urgence for transformation of collective mem-
ory of men s domination on the field of spirituality in terms of egalitarian empow-
ernment of women and feminine s principle.

When the mirror is silent and the desire of subjectivity arises
Understanding of the world as essentially unfounded and of everything that
surrounds us as a flow and variable, raises the question of whether the postmod-
ern thought can offer anything at all to feminism. Is postmodernism an obstacle
or it can also be also the basis of feminist thought and where can be placed a fe-
male in this context (Christian) spirituality? Article therefore looks into some of
the philosophical premises of Nietzsche, Heidegger and Vattimo and into feminist
postulates established and built by Wolf, Beauvoir, Irigaray and Braidotti, as they
show the need to overcome the mentality according to which a woman is a mirror
and its primary function the empowerment of man or some other third party, and
to carry out reconstruction and weakening of the concept of the subject, which in
this paradoxical process actually becomes empowering.

Sacred places of Slovenia s New Age Spirituality
The term “Sacred Place” is a universal concept that was adopted by most reli-
gions and cultures, a concept that exists not only on a theological level, but also
on an experiential level that involves a genuine religious experience. In European
religious symbolism, the earthly material plane is primarily attributed female char-
acteristics while the heavenly, spiritual and intangible realm is considered male.
Accordingly, religious activities that involve the sanctification of earthly locations

may therefore be considered supportive of the female aspect of the universe and
consequently as a part of female spirituality. Slovenia too is abound in sacred places,
many of which have been revered to since ancient times. While some were marked
by no more than simple natural means, others were developed using complex ar-
chitecture such as monuments or shrines. Correspondingly, local cultures began
adopting different forms of worship — from the pagan rituals of days gone by,
subsequent Christian pilgrimage, to the modern day syncretic practices of New
Age spirituality. In addition to these, the article also investigates various practices
that are used for identifying such locations and deliberates the interesting fact that
many of the locations considered sacred by New Age spiritual movements coincide
with places that were already considered sacred by older pagan religions and/or
Christianity. As closure, the article attempts to answer the question whether this
coincidence stems from the specific and syncretic character of New Age spiritual-
ity which encourages its believers to integrate with the ancient wisdom of older
religions, or whether it has more to do with the universal archetypal structural
matrix of such places, a matrix that calls for their sanctification and mystification.

What were women doing in the convents?
For women, who joined Catholic religious orders, religious language often uses
terms like: spiritual mothers, Christ Brides, Lord’s Servants etc. In this paper au-
thor tends to avoid religious vocabulary, which hides different dimensions of this
phenomenon. The aim of her sociological analysis is to answer the following ques-
tions: from which layers of the social structure women were recruited to religious
orders, what kind of work they did to survive, what were their obligations in the
monasteries, what were their occupations, how frequent were the contacts with the
world outside the convents etc. Answering these questions she tends to draw the
circumstances in which women in Catholic convents worked and lived. The paper
presents the certain characteristics of religious life in medieval women monaster-
ies and those of religious life in religious orders and congregations, that emerged
later from the end of 19th century on. The aim of this paper is also to answer the
question, whether convents presented an opportunity for womens emancipation.
It should not be overseen that women monasticism belongs to the hierarchically

structured Catholic Church organization, in which the positions of government
and power to make decisions are reserved to men.

»In One and the Same Movement of Love. «: Spirituality of Ursulines in Slovenia
The article presents the Merician spirituality of the Slovenian Ursulines and the
features they have as the daughters of the Slovenian nation. The spirituality of the
Ursulines unites love of God and activities for the benefit of people. The centre of
the spirituality of Saint Angela, the Foundress of the Company of Saint Ursula,
is virginal consecration to Jesus Christ. It is expressed in the notion of nuptial
relationship. Bethrothal/spousal relation between Jesus Christ and an individual
member includes her whole human reality, since the fiancée delivers herself com-
pletely to her Divine Lover. The gift of love of the Son of God and her response
establishes mutual communion, relationship which unites them in a community
of persons which grants a new identity of the Spouse and a spouse. The fundamen-
tal relationship lived by an Ursuline as a fiancée/spouse of the Son of God is love
which develops her potential so that she dedicates herself to care for other persons
in the same manner as she nourishes their basic relationship. In the spirituality of
the Slovenian Ursuline convents the Christocentric character was always evident.

Spirituality is Her Way of Life
Spirituality is manifested in all religious communities but the way in which the
Spirit or spirituality are perceived and understood differs between individual reli-
gions. In Islam, spirituality is everything that reveals the Compassionate God and
everything that leads towards Him. This paper presents perceptions of the Islamic
concept of spirituality; it answers the question whether it is possible to talk about
‘female5 forms of expressing spirituality and, if yes, what precisely are these forms.

The introductory part of the article details the initial source of spirituality; we then
continue with a presentation of some ways of expressing spirituality and finally
conclude that Islam makes no distinction between male and female spirituality.

My Discovering the Goddess - in Eleven Pictures
The paper presents a description of the personal spiritual quest and maturation
in the course of a few decades, showing some of the key events such as the engage-
ment in the feminist group in the eighties, meeting with political lesbianism, fa-
miliarization with the movement of women's spirituality in the West, working in
a women’s spiritual group, a trip to Glastonbury and a pilgrimage to Crete. The
main focus is on the description of the internal process of self awareness of fema-
leidentity, and the reflections on the position of women in society.
