Zusammenfassung:Victorian railway stations reflected the importance of this revolutionary mode of transport. The great iron roads transformed both rural and urban landscapes and fundamentally changed the pattern of social and commercial life for all sections of the population. The stations were statements of the pride felt in them by their railways company owners and were designed to out-do rival companies for grandeur, scale and comfort. My book describes the development of the period's stations, with their wide range of architectural influences and styles and discusses the notable architects employed to create them. It is a well-researched and richly illustrated book and filled with my own detailed drawings and photographs. Together, both text and pictures, they pay tribute to these gems of architectural heritage from palatial terminus to the humble halt. The book also contains a personal list of recommended stations and preserved railways to visit throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
