RESUME
In the skies of Albanian patriotism, especially in the times of big turns and
movements, in the times of historic typhoons, some ‘stars’ lit brighter and some
less. A constellation during 1941-1944, in Mitrovica prefecture, lit the paths to the
future. This environment, like always, became a broad hearth of educational
patriotic movement, of the efforts for national freedom and unity, and illuminist
movement where the Albanian schools, language and alphabet became life devices
of the patriots.
The history of Albanian school, of our beautiful alphabet letters, is filled with
acts of sublime sacrifice of many teachers. These acts witness the wonderful
important mission of our martyr teachers, and the young generation’s love
dimensions for knowledge, culture, freedom and democracy. Bedri Gjinaj stands in
the golden line of Albanian school teachers, who with his knowledge gracefully fed
the new generations with sensible love for fatherland and nation, language and flag.
Bedri Gjinaj was bom in 1913 in Mitrovica. His life is an epic metaphor of the
century he was bom in. he spent his childhood in the wonderful nature of his
birthplace. His desire to learn took him to Tirana, where he graduated in the
Albanian-American Technical School, known as “the School of Harry Fultz”.
Because of the circumstances of captivity, Bedri was not allowed to return in
Kosovo. For about seven years he worked as a teacher and contriver in the school
dormitory of Burrel, Mat (1932-1941). Feeling in the depth of his soul the weight
of the mission on a teacher, in 1941, after the German invasion, he returns home
where he engaged with his full commitment for the opening of the Albanian
school. Elementary school ‘Scanderbeg’ in Mitrovica, some other schools in
neighboring villages, then in Vushtrri, Podujevo and especially in Novi Pazar are
closely linked to the name of Bedri Gjinaj. Other than teaching and school
managing, after the capitulation of fascist Italy, he was one of the main hosts of the
Second Prizren League, where he was named a clerk. Participation in the founding
meeting, on 16 September 1943, was significant. In this historical place, in heroic
Prizren, the flag that once was hold by the famous men of Renaissance, like: Ymer
Prizreni, Abdyl Frasheri, Sylejman Vokshi and others, that day was passing
through the hands of Bedri Gjinaj, Rexhep Mitrovica, Bedri Pejani, Xhafer Deva,
Aqif Blyta, Musa Shehu, Sheh Hasani, Luke Simon Mjeda, Kemajl Karahoda,
Sylejman Kryeziu, Hasan Dashi, Halim Shuku, Tahir Zajmi, Bejtullah Haxhiu,
Nuredin Haliti, Qazim Bllaca, Bahtjar Qafleshi, Haxhi Xheladini, Nexhip Basha,
Xhevat Begolli, Bajram Gashi, Shemsi Ferri, Adem Kerdoku, Mahmut Shaban
Pasha, Isuf Agushi,Mehmet Devaja, Esat Berisha, Adem Voca, Hasan Zvezdiqi,

contribution of Albanian schools in northern and eastern Albania beyond the 1913
political boarders of Albanian state during 1941-1944, it was an honorable act, an
act of justice, humanity and reborn.
This encouraged me to browse and research more, to know more about the
personality of this national democrat, of this originator and creator of freedom of
Albanian people and estate, of this tribune of independent and advanced thinking,
of this devoted teacher - a model of a martyr for whom the communist dictatorship
- the most sworn enemy of Albanian idealism and nationalism, had a completely
different view.
Looking into the vague traces of Bedri Gjinaj’s unknown life, i came
across many new documents that enlighten not only his denigrated and ignored
figure, often insulted and persecuted, but also those documents enlighten other
events and phenomena of World War II, the education and its development in
Mitrovica district, the Second Prizren League, etc. trying to enlighten the truth of
Bedri Gjinaj’s life and activities, i was aware that I was doing something that
enlightens his figure, on rebirth of the personality of this sacrificed figure, whom
the communist regime for almost half a century extremely denigrated calling him a
traitor and collaborationist, enemy and pro-fascist, whereas the historic literature,
being a ‘spokesman’ of that Bolshevik ideology, had denied almost completely his
patriotic deeds. That made me proud of my humble contribution with deep love for
the rebirth of this true national value. During my research i was absolutely aware
that discovering, re-estimating the personality of this man that carries special ethic
and intellectual values, to put him where he belongs, is a lot of responsibility. The
black and white written history for the 50 years of communistic era, extremely
politicized and sadly pretty fake, has wrongly influenced the psychology of our
society and consequently, spiritually, morally, and nationally imbalanced it,
inducting and triggering hostility, hate, deception and national insult, disunity and
fight against one another.
From the research on Bedri Gjinaj’s life and activities can derive the
general importance of:
- Bedri Gjinaj’s life and activities, and many other idealists and nationalists, that
until the 90s of XX century, due to the conjunctures of communist Albanian
butaforie with Slavic Orthodoxies, were denigrated and cursed, were wrongly
expressed and misinterpreted, were sided in the losers side, as traitors, fascist
cooperators, etc. these things must be enlightened in new light.
- Big events of our national history of 1941 -44, such as the Second Prizren League
that was denigrated and abandoned, require a proper approach and estimation that
is more just and scientific.

- Opening of the schools in Mitrovica district during the 1941-44 was very
important for the Albanian people. During World War II Kosovo suffered
separation of many occupied areas. Mitrovica, Vushtrri, Podujevo and Novi Pazar,
as known, were under the rule of German occupiers. The influence of ‘Scanderbeg’
school and other schools under Bedri Gjinaj’s supervision, under such
extraordinary circumstances, was strong. These schools became important cradles
of culture and education, burning hearths of patriotic education for new
generations...
- Mass attendance of students, not only males, but also females whose native
language was Albanian and of those whose was not, was one of the most important
results. With the help of Bedri Gjinaj, Melihate Deva, Ali Gaxha, Lina Shkreli,
Abdullah Zajmi, Hateme Shala, Avni Zajmi, Hasan Bilalli, Is’hak Sulejmani, Nezir
Miftari, Taib Perjuci, Is’hak Ramaxhiku, Jonus Mripa, Zehra Zhubi, Mustafe
Venhari, Sejdi Sulejmani, etc., the number of students increased year after year
learning all the subjects. Especially teachers of ‘Scanderbeg’ school in Mitrovica
excelled with their knowledge and patriotism, sacrifices and their love of
motherland, nation, language and flag.... To advance their ideal, to accomplish
their sacred and divine mission, they never spared their minds, efforts, soul and
blood... Each of them carries a volume within, a constellation, continuity and
meteor... Groups make a constellation, and constellations follow one another...
- The teachers that worked in schools of Mitrovica district were greatly
representatives of popular aims and of education with democratic determination.
They all had the extraordinary will for work. With the help of principle Bedri
Gjinaj, the teachers that were lacking of pedagogic experience, progressed step by
step and were fully engaged in their tasks of new generation education, planting on
them the love for work, hygiene manners, etc. teachers were known for their
parental approach with their students. A huge contribution for school
advancements, of every class, of every student was provided by Bedri Gjinaj.
- Boys and girls’ general education, rich and poor’s, Catholic and Muslim
communities’ was free. The principle Bedri Gjinaj donated all the staff some nice
clothes, whereas students were given books and uniforms for free.
- Learning, obviously, has always been both students and teachers’ main concern,
but with the help of e Bedri Gjinaj, Monika Shala, Emil Miloti, Melihate Deva,
Lina Shkreli, Ali Gaxha, etc., were initiated many afterschool activities. This way
the school youth gained their love for music culture, literature and sports, art and
drama, etc. Speaking of such activities, ‘Scanderbeg’ school became the main
attraction taking thus the first steps towards entertainment and provided later
activists, music talents, dancers, stage actors, athletes, singers, passionate readers,
etc. The various programs prepared by the ‘Scanderbeg’ students and teachers were
also performed in other centers like, Novi Pazar, Vushtrri, Prishtina, Podujevo, etc.
Bedri Gjinaj is among the distinguished teachers, educators, methodists,
organizers, didacts, thinkers, patriots of the first half of XX century. Being a

promoter of the movement of pedagogical thinking of elementary education in
Mitrovica district (1941-44), he will remain the symbol of an ideal teacher, a
symbol of humanism, and devotion until sacrifice for proper teaching and
education of new generations. This kind of a teacher and educator with pedagogic
and psychological intuition with organizational skills will eternally remain
contemporary.
Ending this biography, i would like to add that my effort for mirroring the portrait
of the devoted teacher and patriot, Bedri Gjinaj, under the circumstances of
different times, conjunct with our national interests, is a modest contribution.
Without the writing of different researchers and historians, without the memories
of people that knew him, i would have never been able to complete and mirror the
historical figure of Bedri Gjinaj, who belongs among distinguished personalities of
our nation. I believe that, by republishing this book ֊ monograph, the reader will
learn something more about the truth, for this martyr who sacrificed for the ideal of
freedom of his people and reunion of ethnic territories.

per hulumtuesit e rinj, qofshin ata shkencore apo publicistē.
Vepra “Bedri Gjinaj mēsues dhe patriot i shquar e autorit Fazli Hajrizi
eshtē mbareshtruar nē ne 266 faqc dhe njē shtojcē tē ve^antē qē pērbēn pjesēn e
shtatē tē veprēs nē fjalē, ku autori ka prezantuar per herē tē pare artikuj tē
ndryshem origjinalē tē Bedri Gjinajt, tē botuar nē gazetat e kohēs, si dhe
dokumente dhe fotogrāfi, qē, pa dyshim, ia shtojnē vieren kesaj vepre.
Kjo monografi hapet me parathēnie (faqe 5-10), nē tē eilen, veĢ disa tē
dhēnave, per pērmbajtjen e saj, autori pohon se midis djepit tē gēzimit dhe
varrit tragjik tē tij lēvizēn ngjarje madhore per popullin tonē, krenare dhe tē
dhembshme njēkohēsisht. “Bedri Gjinaj edhe pse bēri njē jetē mjaft tē shkurtēr,
midis djepit dhe varrit kis h te vetēm 32 vjet, la gjurmē tē pashlyeshme nē
historinē, arsimin dhe kulturen tonē, duke u kthyer nē sinonim tē sakrificēs, tē
atdhetarit tē madh e tēpapērkulur tē lirise, tē mēsuesit tē dashur dhe tē gmuar.
Nē shpirtin e tij tē butē, por edhe kryengrites, rrinte kurdoherē i ndezur
flakadani i lirise dhe pavarēs isē”.
Pjesēn tjetēr tē veprēs autori e ka ndarē nē gjashtē kapituj, tē shoqeruar
edhe me njē shtojcē tē veĢantē qē pērbēn kapituliin e shtatē tē kēsaj
monografie. Nē fund tē kētij publikimi autori ka bērē edhe njē pērfundim, si
dhe ka dhēnē burimet dhe literaturēn e shfrytezuar.
Nē kapituliin e parē autori trajton pozitēn gjeografike dhe pasuritē natyrore
tē Mitrovicēs me rrethinē, duke prezantuar kētē rajon me njē pasuri tē rrallē
evropiane. Ai konstaton: “Tē dhēnat arkeologjike dhe mbeturinat e punimeve
materiale dēshmojnē se xeheroret e plumbit dhe tē zinkut janē shfrytezuar para
dy mijē vjetēsh nga ilirēt (dardanēt), gjē qē dēshmon se banorēt e parē tē kēsaj
treve ishin dardanēt, njē nga fiset ilire, qē jetonin nē brigjet e lumit Angri
(Ibri)”. Po nē kētē kapituli autori analizon nē veĢanti rrethanat arsimore e
kulturore tē kēsaj zone deri nē vitin 1941.
Nē pjesēn kryesore tē veprēs nē vrojtim, qē pērfshin kapitujt II, III dhe IV,
autori gjithanshēm, me akribi tē veĢantē dhe me njē gjuhē e stil tē zgjedhur,
trajton jetēn dhe veprēn e Bedri Gjinajt, duke filluar qē nga prejardhja e
familjes Gjinaj, pērfshirē kētu fēmijērinē, shkollimin dhe aktivitetin e tij tē
ngjeshur nē Iemin e arsimit, ve?mas atē politik, si pjesēmarrēs i Lidhjes sē Dytē
tē Prizrenit.
Zbērthimi i ketyre segmenteve tē lartpērmendura nga ana e autorit, Fazli
Hajrizi, pa dyshim, ndriĢon dtejtpērdrejt apo tērthorazi edhe shumē segmente tē

pērfshihet sa mē shumē nē shkollēn shqipe. Autori konstaton se me emrin e
Bedri Gjinajt lidhet hapja e shkollave shqipe nē Prefekturēn e Mitrovicēs, sepse
kjo ishte rrugē e vetrne e vetēdijēsimit kombetar.
Nē monografine “Bedri Gjinaj - mēsues dhe patriot i shquar” autori ka
vēnē nē spikamē edhe veprimtarinē e dendur politike, kulturore e sportive tē
Bedri Gjinajt per tē konstatuar se ai kishte zhvilluar njē aktivitet shumē tē
dendur politik qē zona e Mitrovicēs, e cila bēnte pjesē nē zonēn gjermane, me
njē strategji historike e ekonomike, t’i bashkohej Shqipērisē. Per kētē qēllim,
konstaton autori, Bedri Gjinaj, u bēnte thirrje patriotēve e intelektualēve
shqiptarē, qē tē bēhen tē gjithē njē gojē, tē bashkohen nē njē vend, sidomos sa i
pērket çeshtjes sē Mitrovicēs: “Po te bashkohemi tē gjithē, do tē fitojē
Mitroviča, po fitoi Mitroviča e po u bashkua me truallin mēmē, do tē fitojē
Kosova, do tē fitojē Shqipēria!” - thoshte me admirim Bedri Gjinaj. Nē njē
vend tē veçante nē monografine “Bedri Gjinaj ֊֊ mēsues dhe patriot i shquar ”
zē edhe themelimi i Lidhjes sē Dytē tē Prizrenit dhe aktivi teti organizativ i
Bedri Gjinajt nē kētē Kuvend Kombetar, veçmas veprimtaria e tij si sekretar i
kesaj lidhje, por edhe angazhimi i tij nē organizimin e aktiviteteve tē shumta nē
Mitroviče, nē frymen e Lidhjes sē Dyte tē Prizrenit per shkak se kjo Lidhje nuk
kishte kompetenca per tē organizuar komitete nē Mitroviče me rrethinē.
Lēnda e trajtuar nē publikimin e Fazli Hajrizit “Bedri Gjinaj - mēsues dhe
patriot i shquar”, ndriçon edhe segmente tjra tē historisē sē popullit shqiptar
gjatē Luftēs sē Dytē Botērore, pērfshirē kētu edhe rezistencēn e Shaban
Polluzhēs, si dhe aktivitetin e Bedri Gjinajt nē shtabin e kesaj rezistence
shqiptare. Duke i bērē njē vēshtrim kritik jetēs dhe veprēs sē Bedri Gjinajt,
autori konstaton se njeriu lind dhe gjatē jetēs ai ndērton idealin e vet. ideali i
Bedri Gjinajt ishte çlirimi dhe bashkimi kombētar, tē çilin frymezim e kishte
formēsuar nga familja e tij atdhetare. Per kētē ideal madhor Bedri Gjinaj
sakrifikoi edhe jetēn. Regjimi komunist, pasi nuk arriti ta thyeje shpirtin e tij
atdhedashēs me tortura tē shumta çnjerezore gjatē hetuesisē nē Burgun e
Mitrovicēs dhe tē Prishtinēs, ia dērrmoi trupin, por jo edhe shpirtin e mendjen,
jo edhe moralin e çelikte. Bedri Gjinajn e vranē komunistēt, por jo edhe idealin
e tij per çlirim e bashkim kombētar. Ai vazhdon tē jetojē edhe sot nē kujtesēn e
kombit. Dhe sot, para lexuesit paraqitet vepra e Fazli Hajrizit “Bedri Gjinaj ֊
mēsues dhe patriot i shquar”. Per shtjellimin e kesaj vepre, autori mbēshtetet
kryesisht nē literature relevante, nē dokumente arkivore tē Arkivit tē Kosovēs,
