Summary Letters to the Authorities in the Era of the Revolution and Civil War (March, 1917 - May, 1921). Collected Documents / Compiler and scientific editor V.I. Shishkin. 2nd Edition, extended and supple mented. Novosibirsk: Avtograf, 2015. Keywords: Russia, Siberia, Russian history, Soviet history, political history, revolution, counter-revolution, civil war, power and society, historical sources, epistolary genre, letters, political everyday life, political adaptation, political communication. This collection is comprised of unique documents taken from the central and local archives. It includes various types of letters of request — reports, denunciations, complaints, applications, letters, addresses, re quests, petitions, telegrams sent to the authorities. Some of these docu ments were sent by individuals, others can be considered a result of a collective work as they had been drawn up at rallies, meetings or con ferences held by various public organizations. The range of addressees was varied, for the most part it included supreme representative, exec utive and judicial authorities. Less often the letters were sent to the local administrative, military or judicial bodies, sometimes they were ad dressed to a particular statesman or a political figure. Letters of request to the governing bodies of the Communist Party and punitive organs were specific to the Soviet period. Published documents contain factual material which is multifaceted and exclusive. It reflects the perception of reahty refracted through the prism of individual consciousness. These documents
contain valuable information about a wide range of problems such as the relationships between power and society, political everyday life, adaptation of popula tion to the political reality under the extreme conditions of the Revolu tion and Civil War.
