In Kissing the Wild Woman, Christopher Nissen explores the unique aesthetic vision and innovative narrative features of Bigolina's greatest surviving work, in which she fashioned a new type of narrative that combined elements of the romance and the novella and included a polemical treatise on the moral implications of portraiture and the role of women in the arts Demonstrating that Bigolina challenged cultural authority by rejecting the prevailing views of both painting and literature, Nissen discusses Bigolina's suggestion that painting constituted an ineffectual, even immoral mode of self-promotion for women in relation to the views of the contemporary writer Pietro Aretino and the painter Titian. Kissing the Wild Woman's analysis of this little-known work adds a new dimension to the study of Renaissance aesthetics in relation to art history, Renaissance thought, women's studies, and Italian literature."--Pub. desc |

Kissing the Wild Woman's analysis of this little-known work adds a new dimension to the study of Renaissance aesthetics in relation to art history, Renaissance thought, women's studies, and Italian literature."--Pub. desc Includes Giulia Bigolina's last will and testament in Italian, followed by its English translation Bigolina, Giulia / d. 1569 Bigolina, Giulia -1569 Urania, nelle quale si contiene l'amore d'una giovane de tal nome Bigolina, Giulia 1518-1569 Urania, nella quale si contiene l'amore d'una giovane di tal nome (DE-588)1023356465 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1540-1570 gnd rswk-swf LITERARY CRITICISM / European / Italian bisacsh LITERARY CRITICISM / Medieval bisacsh Painting in literature Aesthetics in literature Beauty, Personal, in literature Schönheit (DE-588)4053125-9 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Frau Motiv (DE-588)4113617-2 gnd rswk-swf Roman (DE-588)4050479-7 gnd rswk-swf Italien (DE-588)4027833-5 gnd rswk-swf Italien (DE-588)4027833-5 g Roman (DE-588)4050479-7 s Frau Motiv (DE-588)4113617-2 s Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Schönheit (DE-588)4053125-9 s Geschichte 1540-1570 z 1\p DE-604 Bigolina, Giulia 1518-1569 Urania, nella quale si contiene l'amore d'una giovane di tal nome (DE-588)1023356465 u 2\p DE-604 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=468992 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
