Roosevelt's New Deal projects. Mostly holding entry-level jobs, these young people became friends and lovers, connecting to one another at work and through other social and political networks. What the fifteen failed to realize was that these activities--union organizing and, for most, membership in the Communist Party--would plunge them into a maelstrom that would endanger, and for some, destroy their livelihoods, social standing, and careers. White Collar Radicals follows their lives from New Deal activism in the 1930s through the 1940s and 1950s government investigations into what were perceived as subversive deeds. Aaron D. Purcell shows how this small group of TVA idealists was unwillingly thrust from obscurity into the national spotlight, victims and participants of the second Red Scare in the years after World War II. The author brings into sharp focus the determination of the government to target and expose alleged radicals of the 1930s during the early Cold War period. The book also demonstrates how the national hysteria affected individual lives. White Collar Radicals is both a historical study and a cautionary tale. The Knoxville Fifteen, who endured the dark days of the McCarthy Era, now have their story told for the first time--a story that offers modern-day lessons on freedom, civil liberties, and the authority of the government |

The Knoxville Fifteen, who endured the dark days of the McCarthy Era, now have their story told for the first time--a story that offers modern-day lessons on freedom, civil liberties, and the authority of the government Communist Party of the United States of America fast Tennessee Valley Authority fast United States / Congress / House / Special Committee on Un-American Activities (1938-1944) fast New Deal / (1933-1939) fast Kommunistische Partei der USA. swd USA / Committee on Un-American Activities swd Tennessee Valley Authority swd Tennessee Valley Authority Employees Communist Party of the United States of America United States Congress House Special Committee on Un-American Activities (1938-1944) Communist Party USA (DE-588)42276-9 gnd rswk-swf Tennessee Valley Authority (DE-588)6299-6 gnd rswk-swf USA Committee on Un-American Activities (DE-588)253911-1 gnd rswk-swf 1900 - 1999 fast Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1933-1965 gnd rswk-swf Tennessee Valley Authority / Employees United States / History / 1933-1945 United States / Congress / House / Special Committee on Un-American Activities (1938-1944) SOCIAL SCIENCE / General bisacsh HISTORY / General bisacsh Employees fast Radicalism fast New Deal swd Arbeiter swd Radikalismus swd Geschichte Radikalismus Radicalism United States History 20th century New Deal, 1933-1939 New Deal (DE-588)4171681-4 gnd rswk-swf Radikalismus (DE-588)4048171-2 gnd rswk-swf Arbeiter (DE-588)4112560-5 gnd rswk-swf USA Tennessee Valley Authority (DE-588)6299-6 b Arbeiter (DE-588)4112560-5 s Radikalismus (DE-588)4048171-2 s Communist Party USA (DE-588)42276-9 b USA Committee on Un-American Activities (DE-588)253911-1 b Geschichte 1933-1965 z 1\p DE-604 New Deal (DE-588)4171681-4 s 2\p DE-604 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=349650 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
