The medieval period was unlike any other period of Christianity in producing people who frequently claimed visions of Christ and Mary, uttered prophecies, gave voice to ecstatic experiences, recited poems and songs said to emanate directly from God and changed their ways of life as a result of these special revelations. Many recipients of these alleged divine gifts were women. Yet the female contribution to western Europe's intellectual and religious development is still not well understood. Popular or lay religion has been overshadowed by academic theology, which was predominantly the theology of men. This timely book rectifies the neglect by examining a number of women whose lives exemplify traditions which were central to medieval theology but whose contributions have tended to be dismissed as 'merely spiritual' by today's scholars. In their different ways, visionaries like Richeldis de Faverches (founder of the Holy House at Walsingham, or 'England's Nazareth'), the learned Hildegard of Bingen, Hadewijch of Brabant (exemplary voice of the Beguine tradition of love mysticism), charismatic traveller and pilgrim Margery Kempe and anchoress Julian of Norwich all challenged traditional male scholastic theology. Designed for the use of undergraduate student and general reader alike, this attractive survey provides an introduction to thirteen remarkable women and sets their ideas in context |

Designed for the use of undergraduate student and general reader alike, this attractive survey provides an introduction to thirteen remarkable women and sets their ideas in context Mechthild von Magdeburg 1210-1282 (DE-588)118579797 gnd rswk-swf Hildegard Bingen, Äbtissin, Heilige 1098-1179 (DE-588)118550993 gnd rswk-swf Teresa de Jesús 1515-1582 (DE-588)118621823 gnd rswk-swf Angela von Foligno, Heilige 1248-1309 (DE-588)119229943 gnd rswk-swf Marguerite Porète 1250-1310 (DE-588)119240467 gnd rswk-swf Juliana von Norwich 1340-1413 (DE-588)118558692 gnd rswk-swf Mechthild von Hackeborn 1241-1299 (DE-588)118732439 gnd rswk-swf Christina Mirabilis 1150-1224 (DE-588)118904965 gnd rswk-swf Hadewijch 1200-1260 (DE-588)118986015 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1000-1600 swd Geschichte 1000-1600 gnd rswk-swf RELIGION / Mysticism bisacsh Mystikerin swd Frau swd Mystik swd Geschichte Women mystics Europe History To 1500 Mysticism Europe History Middle Ages, 600-1500 Women mystics Europe Intellectual life Mystikerin (DE-588)4204686-5 gnd rswk-swf Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 gnd rswk-swf Mystik (DE-588)4041003-1 gnd rswk-swf Europa Hildegard Bingen, Äbtissin, Heilige 1098-1179 (DE-588)118550993 p Christina Mirabilis 1150-1224 (DE-588)118904965 p Hadewijch 1200-1260 (DE-588)118986015 p Mechthild von Magdeburg 1210-1282 (DE-588)118579797 p Mechthild von Hackeborn 1241-1299 (DE-588)118732439 p Angela von Foligno, Heilige 1248-1309 (DE-588)119229943 p Marguerite Porète 1250-1310 (DE-588)119240467 p Juliana von Norwich 1340-1413 (DE-588)118558692 p Teresa de Jesús 1515-1582 (DE-588)118621823 p 1\p DE-604 Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 s Mystik (DE-588)4041003-1 s Geschichte 1000-1600 z 2\p DE-604 Mystikerin (DE-588)4204686-5 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 1-84511-640-2 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 1-84511-641-0 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-1-84511-640-8 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-1-84511-641-5 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=297515 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
