Contemporary Jewish Thought in America From the scientific revolution and the rise of modern philosophy to the Enlightenment and the Holocaust, modern events have stimulated new ways of understanding the central concepts and principles of Judaism. Is Judaism a timeless, universal set of beliefs or, rather, is it historical and contingent in its relation to different times and places? Do Jewish beliefs derive their meaning from texts and revelation or from rational argument and experience? Michael L. Morgan addresses major Jewish thinkers from the seventeenth century to the present who have wrestled with the moral and theological dilemmas that history poses for Jewish belief and identity. Among figures discussed are Baruch Spinoza, Moses Mendelssohn, Leo Strauss, Martin Buber, Franz Rosenzweig, and Emil Fackenheim. By clarifying the tensions and dilemmas that characterize modern thinking about the nature of Judaism and Jewish experience, Morgan clears the way for Jews to appreciate their historical situation and yet locate enduring values and principles in a post-Holocaust world |

By clarifying the tensions and dilemmas that characterize modern thinking about the nature of Judaism and Jewish experience, Morgan clears the way for Jews to appreciate their historical situation and yet locate enduring values and principles in a post-Holocaust world 1900 - 1999 fast Geschichte 1900-2000 RELIGION / Judaism / Theology bisacsh Jewish philosophy fast Judaism fast Judaism / Historiography fast Judaism / Philosophy fast Revelation / Judaism / History of doctrines fast Jodendom gtt Filosofie gtt Theologie gtt Judaism / History / Philosophy cct Judaism / Historiography cct Jews / History / Philosophy cct Judaism / 20th century cct Revelation (Jewish theology) / History of doctrines cct Geschichte Juden Judentum Philosophie Theologie Judaism History Philosophy Judaism Historiography Jews History Philosophy Judaism 20th century Revelation Judaism History of doctrines Judentum (DE-588)4114087-4 gnd rswk-swf Offenbarung (DE-588)4043365-1 gnd rswk-swf Jüdische Philosophie (DE-588)4136677-3 gnd rswk-swf Judentum (DE-588)4114087-4 s Offenbarung (DE-588)4043365-1 s 1\p DE-604 Jüdische Philosophie (DE-588)4136677-3 s 2\p DE-604 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=10989 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
