Previous research has been mostly biographical and has focused on the three most prominent exiles: Cicero, Ovid, and Seneca. By shifting focus to a discourse of exile and displacement in early Greek poetry, Greek historiography, Cynicism, consolatory literature, Latin epic, Greek literature of the empire, and Medieval Latin literature, the present volume questions the notion of a distinct, psychologically conditioned 'genre' or 'mode' of exile literature. It shows how ancient and medieval authors perceive and present their exile according to pre-existent literary paradigms, style themselves or others as 'typical' exiles, and employ 'exile' as a powerful trope to express estrangement, elicit readerly sympathy, and question political power structures |

Hexter -- Bibliography -- General Index -- Index of Greek -- Index of Latin -- Index Locorum Exile and displacement are central topics in classical literature. It shows how ancient and medieval authors perceive and present their exile according to pre-existent literary paradigms, style themselves or others as 'typical' exiles, and employ 'exile' as a powerful trope to express estrangement, elicit readerly sympathy, and question political power structures LITERARY CRITICISM / Ancient & Classical bisacsh Classical literature fast Exile (Punishment) fast Exiles' writings fast Literature fast Ballingschap gtt Bellettrie gtt Klassieke talen gtt Klassieke oudheid gtt Antike Literatur Classical literature History and criticism Exiles' writings History and criticism Exile (Punishment) in literature Griechisch (DE-588)4113791-7 gnd rswk-swf Latein (DE-588)4114364-4 gnd rswk-swf Antike (DE-588)4068754-5 gnd rswk-swf Exilliteratur (DE-588)4015961-9 gnd rswk-swf Römisches Reich (DE-588)4076778-4 gnd rswk-swf Griechenland Altertum (DE-588)4093976-5 gnd rswk-swf Antike (DE-588)4068754-5 s Exilliteratur (DE-588)4015961-9 s 1\p DE-604 Griechisch (DE-588)4113791-7 s 2\p DE-604 Griechenland Altertum (DE-588)4093976-5 g 3\p DE-604 Latein (DE-588)4114364-4 s 4\p DE-604 Römisches Reich (DE-588)4076778-4 g 5\p DE-604 Gaertner, Jan Felix Sonstige oth Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 90-04-15515-5 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-90-04-15515-2 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=252642 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
