"In 1942, the federal government expelled more than 22,000 Japanese Canadians from their homes in British Columbia. From 1942 to 1949, they were dispossessed, sent to incarceration sites, and dispersed across Canada. Over 4,000 were deported to Japan. Cartographies of Violence analyses the effects of these processes for some Japanese Canadian women. Using critical race, feminist, anti-colonial, and cultural geographic theory, Mona Oikawa deconstructs prevalent images, stereotypes, and language used to describe the 'Internment' in ways that masks its inherent violence. Through interviews with women survivors and their daughters, Oikawa analyses recurring themes of racism and resistance, as well as the struggle to communicate what happened. Disturbing and provocative, Cartographies of Violence explores women's memories in order to map the effects of forced displacements, incarcerations, and the separations of family, friends, and communities."--Publisher's website |

Disturbing and provocative, Cartographies of Violence explores women's memories in order to map the effects of forced displacements, incarcerations, and the separations of family, friends, and communities."--Publisher's website Evacuation and relocation of Japanese (Canada / 1942-1945) fast 1900 - 1999 fast Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1942-1949 gnd rswk-swf HISTORY / Canada / General bisacsh Japanese fast Japanese / Social conditions fast Women fast Women / Social conditions fast Frau Japanese Canada Social conditions 20th century Women Canada Social conditions 20th century Japanese Canada Interviews Women Canada Interviews Japanese Canada Evacuation and relocation, 1942-1945 Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 gnd rswk-swf Internierungslager (DE-588)4027464-0 gnd rswk-swf Japaner (DE-588)4096462-0 gnd rswk-swf Kanada Kanada (DE-588)4029456-0 gnd rswk-swf Kanada (DE-588)4029456-0 g Japaner (DE-588)4096462-0 s Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 s Internierungslager (DE-588)4027464-0 s Geschichte 1942-1949 z 1\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 0-8020-9601-8 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 0-8020-9901-7 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-0-8020-9601-2 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-0-8020-9901-3 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=682834 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
