The authors' main argument is that Israel - under the pretext of a 'temporary' security measure - is using the wall to redraw its borders to permanently annex major settlement blocs which it has illegally constructed throughout the occupied West Bank. This unilateral initiative is being implemented with the agreement of the US administration, although contrary to internationally-approved proposals for a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The introduction places the wall in its historic context, as the culmination of Israel's long-term strategy to annex strategic land and water assets and to limit the boundaries of the Palestinian state, territorially and politically. The principal victims of the wall are the Palestinian rural population, the main targets of land confiscation and settlement expansion since 1967. A separate chapter will examine the impact in Jerusalem where the wall serves to consolidate Israel's illegal annexation and colonization of East Jerusalem, at the expense of the native Muslim and Christian populations. Internationally, construction of the wall has taken place against the backdrop of the 'Road Map' and Sharon's unilateral disengagement plan. The wall has been the subject of a number of UN General Assembly and Security Council resolutions and a landmark ruling by the International Court of Justice, which declared that the route through the West Bank and East Jerusalem is illegal. -- Publisher description |

-- Publisher description Since 1993 fast Geschichte 2003-2005 gnd rswk-swf HISTORY / General bisacsh Grenze idszbz Mauer idszbz Grenzmauer swd Nahostkonflikt swd Arab-Israeli conflict fast Israeli West Bank Barrier fast Political science fast Nahostkonflikt Politische Wissenschaft Israeli West Bank Barrier Arab-Israeli conflict 1993- Electronic books Grenzmauer (DE-588)4772967-3 gnd rswk-swf Nahostkonflikt (DE-588)4041158-8 gnd rswk-swf Westjordanland (DE-588)4065741-3 gnd rswk-swf Israel (DE-588)4027808-6 gnd rswk-swf Israel (DE-588)4027808-6 g Westjordanland (DE-588)4065741-3 g Grenzmauer (DE-588)4772967-3 s Geschichte 2003-2005 z 1\p DE-604 Nahostkonflikt (DE-588)4041158-8 s 2\p DE-604 Usher, Graham Sonstige oth Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 0-7453-2433-9 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 0-7453-2434-7 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-0-7453-2433-3 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-0-7453-2434-0 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=168041 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
