Drawing on prose and poetry, painting and statuary, social practices and religious rites, William Engel reopens central questions about Renaissance habits of thought. He explores how the metaphorics of that period signaled and enacted a continual revelation of mortality: the death of the body (figured as a kind of vehicle) and the eternality of the soul (that which was to be transported). Engel argues that early modern metaphorics was essentially mnemonic and emblematic, grounding itself in the relation of body and soul. Building on the work of Benjamin, Heidegger, Derrida, Baudrillard, and Eliade, the book provides contemporary readers with a key for recovering and understanding the critical assumptions underlying a mnemonically oriented principle of aesthetics |

Building on the work of Benjamin, Heidegger, Derrida, Baudrillard, and Eliade, the book provides contemporary readers with a key for recovering and understanding the critical assumptions underlying a mnemonically oriented principle of aesthetics Geschichte 1500-1600 swd Geschichte 1260-1660 swd Geschichte 1590-1660 swd Geschichte 1600-1700 Geschichte 1500-1600 Geschichte 1260-1660 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1500-1600 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1500-1700 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1590-1660 gnd rswk-swf Social Sciences Littérature anglaise / 16e siècle / Histoire et critique Mort dans la littérature Funérailles / Rites et cérémonies / Angleterre / Histoire / 16e siècle Funérailles / Rites et cérémonies / Angleterre / Histoire / 17e siècle Littérature anglaise / Influence européenne Mélancolie dans la littérature Mémoire dans la littérature Arts de la Renaissance Littérature anglaise / 17e siècle / Histoire et critique LITERARY CRITICISM / European / English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh bisacsh Literatur swd Tod (Motiv) swd Renaissance swd Kunst swd Tod swd Melancholie swd Emblem swd Geschichte English literature Early modern, 1500-1700 History and criticism Death in literature Funeral rites and ceremonies England History 16th century Funeral rites and ceremonies England History 17th century English literature European influences Melancholy in literature Memory in literature Arts, Renaissance Tod (DE-588)4060294-1 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 gnd rswk-swf Melancholie (DE-588)4038515-2 gnd rswk-swf Melancholie Motiv (DE-588)4114564-1 gnd rswk-swf Emblem (DE-588)4014553-0 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Renaissance (DE-588)4049450-0 gnd rswk-swf Tod Motiv (DE-588)4117229-2 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Melancholie Motiv (DE-588)4114564-1 s Geschichte 1500-1700 z 1\p DE-604 Tod (DE-588)4060294-1 s Geschichte 1260-1660 z 2\p DE-604 Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Melancholie (DE-588)4038515-2 s 3\p DE-604 4\p DE-604 Tod Motiv (DE-588)4117229-2 s Geschichte 1500-1600 z 5\p DE-604 6\p DE-604 7\p DE-604 Emblem (DE-588)4014553-0 s Geschichte 1590-1660 z 8\p DE-604 Renaissance (DE-588)4049450-0 s 9\p DE-604 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=13819 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 6\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 7\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 8\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 9\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
