Beschreibung: | Includes bibliographical references (p. [235]-287) and index Among the first anthropologists to work in Eastern Europe, Katherine Verdery had built up a significant base of ethnographic and historical expertise when the major political transformations in the region began to take place. In this book, which deals with the aftermath of Soviet-style socialism and the different forms that may replace it, she explores the nature of socialism in order to understand more fully its consequences. By analyzing her primary data from Romania and Transylvania and synthesizing information from other sources, Verdery lends a distinctive anthropological perspective to a variety of themes common to political and economic studies on the end of socialism: themes such as "civil society," the creation of market economies, privatization, national and ethnic conflict, and changing gender relations. Infused by an ethnographic sensibility, the book rejects the assumption of a transition to capitalism in favor of investigating local processes on their own terms |

Princeton University Press c1996 1 Online-Ressource (298 p.) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Princeton Studies in Culture/Power/History Princeton studies in culture/power/history Includes bibliographical references (p. Infused by an ethnographic sensibility, the book rejects the assumption of a transition to capitalism in favor of investigating local processes on their own terms Political Science Social Sciences BUSINESS & ECONOMICS / Development / Business Development bisacsh BUSINESS & ECONOMICS / Development / Economic Development bisacsh BUSINESS & ECONOMICS / Development / General bisacsh BUSINESS & ECONOMICS / Government & Business bisacsh BUSINESS & ECONOMICS / Structural Adjustment bisacsh Communism fast Communisme / Roumanie ram HISTORY / Europe / Eastern bisacsh POLITICAL SCIENCE / Public Policy / Economic Policy bisacsh Post-communism fast Postcommunisme / Roumanie ram Socialism fast Aufsatzsammlung swd Nationalbewusstsein swd Wirtschaftsreform swd Communisme gtt Socialisme gtt Kommunismus Sozialismus Wirtschaft Wirtschaftspolitik Communism Romania Post-communism Romania Post-communism Socialism Romania Nationalbewusstsein (DE-588)4041282-9 gnd rswk-swf Wirtschaftsreform (DE-588)4066512-4 gnd rswk-swf Europa Rumänien Rumänien (DE-588)4050939-4 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Rumänien (DE-588)4050939-4 g Nationalbewusstsein (DE-588)4041282-9 s 2\p DE-604 Wirtschaftsreform (DE-588)4066512-4 s 3\p DE-604 https://doi.org/10.1515/9781400821990 Verlag Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
