Pfaltzgraff Jr. develop alternative models for assessing the challenges of a nuclear Iran for U.S. security. Through three scenario models, the book explores the political, strategic, and operational challenges facing the United States in a post-Cold War world. The authors concentrate on the type of nuclear capability Iran might develop; the conditions under which Iran might resort to threatened or actual weapons use; the extent to which Iran's military strategy and declaratory policy might embolden Iran and its proxies to pursue more aggressive policies in the region and vis-à-vis the United States; and Iran's ability to transfer nuclear materials to others within and outside the region, possibly sparking a nuclear cascade. Drawing on recent post-Cold War deterrence theory, the authors consider Iran's nuclear ambitions as they relate to its foreign policy objectives, domestic politics, and role in the Islamic world, and they suggest specific approaches to improve U.S. defense and deterrence planning | |

Davis and Robert L. Drawing on recent post-Cold War deterrence theory, the authors consider Iran's nuclear ambitions as they relate to its foreign policy objectives, domestic politics, and role in the Islamic world, and they suggest specific approaches to improve U.S. defense and deterrence planning In English Deterrence (Strategy) Diplomatic relations International relations Militär Military policy Nuclear weapons Politics and government Security, International Außenpolitik Diplomatische Beziehungen Geschichte Internationale Politik Politik HISTORY Military Other Iran Foreign relations 1997- Iran Military policy Iran Politics and government 1997- Nuclear weapons Iran POLITICAL SCIENCE Political Freedom TECHNOLOGY & ENGINEERING Military Science Rüstungspolitik (DE-588)4178671-3 gnd rswk-swf Sicherheitspolitik (DE-588)4116489-1 gnd rswk-swf Kernwaffe (DE-588)4003434-3 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Iran (DE-588)4027653-3 gnd rswk-swf Iran (DE-588)4027653-3 g USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Kernwaffe (DE-588)4003434-3 s Rüstungspolitik (DE-588)4178671-3 s Sicherheitspolitik (DE-588)4116489-1 s 1\p DE-604 Pfaltzgraff, Robert L. 1934- (DE-588)170050440 aut http://www.degruyter.com/doi/book/10.7312/davi16622 Verlag Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
