In our current crisis it was a housing boom and bust that in turn led to financial turmoil in the United States and other countries. How did everything deteriorate so suddenly and dramatically? In Getting Off Track: How Government Actions and Interventions Caused, Prolonged, and Worsened the Financial Crisis, Hoover fellow and Stanford economist John B. Taylor offers empirical research to explain what caused the current financial crisis, what prolonged it, and what worsened it dramatically more than a year after it began. The author tells how unusually easy monetary policy helped set the crisis in motion, as interest rates at the Federal Reserve and several other central banks deviated from historical regularities. He explains monetary interaction with the subprime mortgage problem, showing how the use of these mortgages, especially the adjustable-rate variety, led to excessive risk taking. In the United States this was encouraged by government programs designed to promote home ownership, a worthwhile goal but overdone in retrospect. Looking ahead, the author suggests a set of principles to follow to prevent misguided actions and interventions in the future. -- Book Description |

-- Book Description Global Financial Crisis (2008-2009) fast 2008 - 2009 fast Geschichte 2000-2008 gnd rswk-swf Politische Steuerung swd Regulierung swd Finanzkrise swd Kredietcrisis (2008-) gtt Monetaire politiek gtt Finanzkrise gnd Geldpolitik gnd Hypothekarkredit gnd BUSINESS & ECONOMICS / Economic Conditions bisacsh BUSINESS & ECONOMICS / Economic History bisacsh BUSINESS & ECONOMICS / Economics / Comparative bisacsh POLITICAL SCIENCE / Economic Conditions bisacsh POLITICAL SCIENCE / Public Policy / Economic Policy bisacsh Financial crises fast Government policy fast Monetary policy fast Mortgages / Government policy fast Politik Wirtschaft Wirtschaftspolitik Financial crises Global Financial Crisis, 2008-2009 Government policy United States Financial crises United States Monetary policy Mortgages Government policy Finanzkrise (DE-588)7635855-0 gnd rswk-swf Geldpolitik (DE-588)4019902-2 gnd rswk-swf Hypothekarkredit (DE-588)4161146-9 gnd rswk-swf USA USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Finanzkrise (DE-588)7635855-0 s Geldpolitik (DE-588)4019902-2 s Hypothekarkredit (DE-588)4161146-9 s Geschichte 2000-2008 z 1\p DE-604 Hoover Institution Press Sonstige oth http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=544159 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
