PSYCHOLOGY
PERCEPTION, ACTION, COGNITION, AND EMOTION
EDITED BY
MARKUS RAAB, 8ABETT LOB1NGER. SVEN HOFFMANN, ALEXANDRA PIZZERA. SYLVAJN LA BORDE
Performance Psychology: Perception, Act, Cognition, and Emotion presents
a scientific guide to performance psychology research, looking at the behavior of
individuáis and groups toward achieving specific goals. The book identifies factors that
add to or take away from the ability to achieve those goals in music, performance
arts, and sport. Empirical studies reviewed in this book employ a variety of methods,
including experimental, diagnostic, and intervention approaches.
The book is structured in five sections. Section A introduces the building blocks of
performance—cognition, perception, action, and emotion and their components (e.g.,
attention, memory, decision-making)—necessary to performance. Sections B through
E investigate the links between the core capacities: action and cognition, perception
and cognition, perception and action, and emotion and cognition. These interactions
are explored in different domains and reference theories, methods, and applications of
performance research.
Coverage includes measurement consideration in performance psychology, applications
of performance psychology research in different domains, for different populations
(e.g., older adults), and utilizing specific sensory organs (e.g., vision, hearing, etc.). The
book also looks at the effects of pressure and stress on performance.
Key Features:
* Features research on both individual and group performance
* Examines perception, action, cognition, and emotion as they relate to performance
* Reviews research in multiple domains: sports, music, the arts
* Describes theories, methods, and applications of performance psychology research
* Outlines the importance of attention, memory, and decision-making in performance
* includes the impact of stress and pressure on performance
