Zusammenfassung:Amnesty International has been documenting cases of human rights abuses by law enforcement officials in France, including unlawful killings, torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment (ill-treatment), for many years. In 2005, the organization published a report which concluded that law enforcement officials who committed such abuses enjoyed de facto impunity, in a context where police, prosecutors and judges were reluctant to thoroughly investigate and prosecute such human rights abuses. The organization has continued to monitor cases of alleged human rights abuses by law enforcement officials and notes that as of November 2011, progress in the investigations has been painfully slow at best. Those followed include cases of deaths during or following arrest, where the families continue to wait for an adequate explanation for the death of their family member and an appropriate remedy in conformity with international human rights law. This briefing follows up on Amnesty International's previous research on these issues, and focus specifically on the impact of deaths in police custody and of the lack of accountability for the victims' families
