Zusammenfassung: | The history of emotions is one of the fastest growing fields in current historical debate, and this is the first book-length introduction to the field, synthesizing the current research, and offering direction for future study. This book is organized around the debate between social constructivist and universalist theories of emotion that has shaped most emotions research in a variety of disciplines for more than a hundred years: social constructivists believe that emotions are largely learned and subject to historical change, while universalists insist on the timelessness and pan-culturalism of emotions. In historicizing and problematizing this binary, Jan Plamper opens emotions research beyond constructivism and universalism; he also maps a vast terrain of thought about feelings in anthropology, philosophy, sociology, linguistics, art history, political science, the life sciences - from nineteenth-century experimental psychology to the latest affective neuroscience - and history, from ancient times to the present day |

EMOTIONS IN HISTORY
Interest in the historical dimensions
of emotional life has grown rapidly.
Focusing on the period 1500-2000, the
Emotions in History series reaches across
regional and national boundaries, bringing
together studies from all parts of the world.
The series recognizes the multifaceted
nature of emotions, exploring them through
the histories of science, medicine, and
psychology, as well as literature, art,
religion, politics, and economics.
Jan Plamper is Professor of History
at Goldsmiths, University of London.
He obtained a BA from Brandeis University
and a PhD from the University of California,
Berkeley, after which he taught at the
University of Tübingen and from 2008 to
2012 was a Dilthey Fellow at the Centre
for the History of Emotions, Max Planck
Institute for Human Development, in Berlin.
He is co-editor, with Benjamin Lazier, of
Fear: Across the Disciplines (2012); and
co-editor, with Marc Elie and Schamma
Schahadat, of Rossiiskaia imperiia chuvstv:
Podkhody k kuVturnoi istorii emotsii [In the
Realm of Russian Feelings: Approaches to the
Cultural History of Emotions] (2010). He
has also recently authored The Stalin Cult:

The history of emotions is one of the fastest growing fields in current
historical debate, and this is the first book-length introduction to the field,
synthesizing the current research, and offering direction for future study. The History
of Emotions is organized around the debate between social constructivist and
universalist theories of emotion that has shaped most emotions research in a variety
of disciplines for more than a hundred years: social constructivists believe that
emotions are largely learned and subject to historical change, while universalists
insist on the timelessness and pan-culturalism of emotions. In historicizing
and problematizing this binaryjan Plamper opens emotions research beyond
constructivism and universalism; he also maps a vast terrain of thought about feelings
in anthropology, philosophy, sociology, linguistics, art history, political science, the
life sciences—from nineteenth-century experimental psychology to the latest
affective neuroscience—and history, from ancient times to the present day.
‘Written with grace, insight, and palpable moral passion, this book is essential
reading for historians, anthropologists, scientists—anyone who is interested in what
emotions are, how they have been studied, and where we should go from here.’
Barbara H. Rosenwein, Loyola University Chicago
‘. an instructive, enlightening, and brilliantly written book.’

In historicizing and problematizing this binary, Jan Plamper opens emotions research beyond constructivism and universalism; he also maps a vast terrain of thought about feelings in anthropology, philosophy, sociology, linguistics, art history, political science, the life sciences - from nineteenth-century experimental psychology to the latest affective neuroscience - and history, from ancient times to the present day Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1900- gnd rswk-swf History fast Emotions fast Emotions (Philosophy) fast Geschichte Emotions History Emotions (Philosophy) Emotions Neurowissenschaften (DE-588)7555119-6 gnd rswk-swf Gefühl (DE-588)4019702-5 gnd rswk-swf Wissenschaft (DE-588)4066562-8 gnd rswk-swf Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4151278-9 Einführung gnd-content Gefühl (DE-588)4019702-5 s Wissenschaft (DE-588)4066562-8 s Neurowissenschaften (DE-588)7555119-6 s Geschichte 1900- z DE-604 Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 s Geschichte z 1\p DE-604 Tribe, Keith Sonstige oth Digitalisierung UB Bayreuth - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=028176043&sequence=000003&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Klappentext Digitalisierung UB Bayreuth - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=028176043&sequence=000004&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
