adam_text | High-risk pregnancies form a significant and increasing proportion of the obstetric
patient population and require careful management. Compendium for the Antenatal Care of
High-Risk Pregnancies takes a unique approach to over 140 high-risk conditions, combining ‘Fact Files’,
‘Care Pathways , and Information for Patients . The book is designed to provide a practical and
accessible individualized framework of information for obstetricians of all grades in busy clinical
environments, and to integrate the specialist care offered to women with high-risk
pregnancies in hospitals with community-based antenatal care.
For each condition, the book covers vital points on prepregnancy, risk reduction,
clinical governance, discussions with patients, and required documentation. Incorporating
current RCOG and NICE guidance, as well as Cochrane, CEMACH. and MBRPACE
reviews, the book is robustly referenced and evidence based.
The model care pathways are designed as clear, practical templates, ensuring the best
care for the patient, while assuring that visits, staff time, and resources are used efficiently.
The information for patients section is a valuable resource for busy staff, who need to
ensure that patients are informed participants in their care.
A reliable resource for trainees to consultant obstetricians, the book will be particularly
valuable for those preparing for higher exams such as the MRCOG or those in the RCOG s ATSM
programmes for Advanced antenatal practice and Maternal medicine. The care pathways for each
condition include every step of the process, representing the integration of all members of the
multi disciplinary team. Due to this integrated approach, the book is also beneficial to midwives, both
hospital and community based, involved in the care of patients with high-risk pregnancies.
